Whenever I want to purchase a Kindle book it only lets me buyit using 1-click. I have gone to my 1-click settings and turned this off but it doesn't make any difference. As I have gift vouchers n my account then I want to be able to choose whether to use them or not when making purchases but the system doesn't let me. Am I missing something?

I think I'm right in saying that if you've got a certificate registered to your account this will be used automaticly for kindle purchases through the one-click until it runs out?

I believe so - I've never done this, but I know a lot of people from outside the US use them on to avoid multiple small transaction fees on their credit cards

S Morris is absolutely right. If you add the gift certificates to your account, 1 click will use those before any registered card. To be sure you can leave 1-click activated but remove all credit/debit cards from it. It will still work for kindle purchases (provided you have a gift certificate balance), except for pre-orders when you will need to have a card registered - but even for pre-orders if at the time the book is released you have enough gift certificate balance, the cost will still be taken from that, not your card.

I do this all the time - I get the occasional 10 gift certificate as "cash back" from my credit card.

You can't however choose NOT to use your gift certificate balance to buy a kindle book, but you can choose not to use it for other purchases done via the website - just be careful to tick and untick the right boxes at checkout.

actually, if it's like the US site, you have to have a credit card listed in order to buy apps

daily question on the US kindle forums is why do I have to have a credit card on file to get free apps (they shop directly from not from a downloaded app store on their kindles)

Chookgate says:
I bet it's because free apps have lots of paid for extras that you just click to get (like unlocking new levels in games for example). That old proverb springs to mind - "There's no such thing as a free app (lunch)"

no, it's actually to prove residency in the US (credit card billing address must match country address)

Once you register a gift certificate to your account, then any purchases on that account will subtract from the gift certificate first before touching the bank account.
It will be done automatically, and you wont see it is taken from the gift certificate until after you confirm the purchase.

No it does not make any diffference. If you are certain that your gift card isn't being used for your 1-click purchases then select Help from the top af any Amazon page and use the Contact Us button on the next page. Amazon will call you back if you provide them a phone number.
