The port for the charging cable on my 18 month old kindle seems to be broken. Can it be repaired?

ChrisJ says:
The cable? You can pick up a new one for about a 1.
It is a standard micro-USB connection cable.

C. Smith says:
No, it's the port on the kindle that the micro USB slots into. The pin in it seems to have broken so the USB can't connect into it properly

Not so easy! There ARE companies that repair Kindles (do a Bing for them, or search through this forum), generally seems to cost about 50.00... while a new / replacement Kindle will cost from 70.00 upwards.

You can try ringing Amazon... they might feel that a break like that is unusual enough to offer you something.

While on holiday I was reading my Kindle, with which I've had for just over a year, with no problems. It was pretty much fully charged but without warning it suddenly went off. Since then it will not switch back on, it does not seem to charge, (I have tried two different chargers.) The yellow light shows for about half an hour, then cuts out. When you press the on/off button it flashes green but then goes off again. Any ideas?

@Mrs ER: Put it on charge from the wall if possible for 30 minutes.

Press/slide the power switch to the ON position and HOLD IT THERE for a slow count of 30. Ignore everything it does and keep the switch pressed in the ON position.

Now put it down and make a drink. Let it sort itself out. Now press the ON switch as normal. Hopefully all is now well.

If not, then consider plugging it into a working PC or Laptop and seeing if that will shock it back to life.

If not, I fear it may be unwell :(

ChrisJ says:
Electrical gadgets don't like water.
If it gets wet you must: put it in a bag of dry rice in the airing cupboard for 3 days.
You must NOT turn it on.
After 3 days, it MIGHT work. In general the more expensive the gadget, the better built it is, and the more resistant it will be to the effects of damp. The Kindle is a very cheap gadget!

If you have turned it on before thoroughly drying it out, then you are very likely to have short-circuited something...

Fast Eddie says:
it's broken for certain - kindles do not like moisture - it's even dangerous to read books about the sea or anything to do with water this will ruin them as well.

It's gone now C, but if it's still under guarantee , it's worth contacting amazon to say you had a little accident, and see what they come up with.

Google for companies who do repairs. If it is still under warranty then contact Amazon - they will replace it free.

What device? I didn't think the Kindles had batteries that were designed for customers to replace...

It's amazing what you can do with some gaffer tape, two bits of copper wire and an old car battery really.
