I not very good with technology but have I read it right, I can listen to audio books on a kindle? I already have an audible account and currently download to my iPod but it is filling up rapidly so I thought of getting a Kindle touch. Would this be the right version to get?

not the small £89 Kindle but the Keyboard and touch models.

The audio books will take up a lot of space on your Kindle. What I usually do, is just keep my current audiobook and the next one I plan to read on there and leave the rest in Audible manager on my laptop. You could do the same with your iPod.

Has anyone else listened to the Inspector Serrailler books by Susan Hill on audio? They are great as books, but really well read, and enjoyable to listen to as audio.

just to add, the text to speech is not to the same standard of Audible, Audible books will play without a problem on the touch (Amazon own Audible), with some books you will be able to use the build in reader to read some books to you (the publisher has to agree to allow the book to be used this way), the voice though is a robot type voice, I can't listen to it as it's that bad but some people say they use it and love the feature! here is a sample.

Thanks for this; I didn't think the text-to-speak sound like a good idea. I was really thinking about just using Audible files, so I will be ok there then, following your advice. I thought I would be able to but I needed some reassurance before I paid out the money for a Kindle. Thank you

No problem. I'm sure you will love it!

I'm sure you will love it but... your original popst doesn't mention that you might read on it, just that you want to listen to audiobooks. If it was me (and I know it isn't) I wouldn't buy the Kindle as an audiobook player. If you are going to read on it as well then all well and good.

You can look at which is Amazon's Audiobook division, but any Audiobook in MP3 format should work provided it has no DRM.

P McG- a lot of people seem to have trouble with those links... I can't remember what the answer is to the probelm. A search through the forum may reveal all though.

how do I listen to the audio part of a book on kindle touch

Sally, if you mean Text to Speech, while reading the book, tap at the top of the screen and select "Turn on Text to Speech". Not all books are "Text to Speech" enabled.

If you've bought an "Enhanced" ebook, they aren't fully functional on the Touch.

You will need to download your book from via your USB, from your computer cable to your kindle touch.
I found the sound quality is ok, just about..:)

Had no problem with the sound quality of audio books on my KK, ditto MP3 files. You won't rattle the window frames with the music but it's great to listen as you read.
