Does anyone know if the Kindle has such a thing as a factory reset? I seem to have some duplicates and thought I'd have a speing clean so wanted to wipe the Kindle clean and start again!

Yes it does if you go to settings then press menu again it will give you the option to factory reset. However it is a bit extreme as you will have to set up everything again.

just delete your duplicates?
are you sure they are duplicates, and that you just don't have your home page set up wrong, if you have collections you need to sort your home page by collections or else the book will show both in and out of the collection

Why a factory reset, why not just change the language?

It sounds like a wrongly set home page to me as well. If all books are bought from Amazon they tell you if you already have it and don't let you re buy.

Thanks Wilber and Suze.
My new kindle touch was in German because of my big thumbs. On start up it requests the language to be used and I hit German by mistake. Being new to a kindle I did not know the order of the menus and sub menus etc. however I managed to change the language by following the german word for language "sprechen" in the menus. It's good that there is not a lot of menus on the kindle, I would not like to try to change something as complicated as windows. It's a sort of catch 22 if you hit the wrong key.

it's not hard to do (setting up in the wrong language) - there were 4 or 5 different threads at amazon.com with people having the same problem

don't feel bad about it

Just changed Kindle to a Kindle Touch, does a 'factory reset' wipe off your name - Kindle email address - account details on the Kindle.

Suze says:
Yes, it does. So does de-registerering and is a damn sight quicker.

It's done it again. All my posts are going to be double tonight, so I think I might just read them and not type anything.

I have just been given a kindle and accidentally set the language in Portuguese. Which page do I need to change the language to English

Macher, there are two different models that have this feature. As the appropriate options appear on different lines on each model it would be easier to answer you if you said which you had.

Reset to English on K4
Home, Menu, click on third option from the bottom of the screen, then turn to page 2. The Device Language option should already be highlighted so all you need to do is click the centre button of the 5-way controller.

Reset to English on Touch
Home, Menu, touch second option from the bottom of the screen. Then touch second option from the bottom of the screen. Then touch the last option on the next screen that appears. Then touch the first option that appears on the next screen.

Thank you so much for these simple and effective instructions. I have searched the internet as I set it to Dutch - no help at all. I had to reset it as it's a gift!

Does anyone know if it's possible to do a factory reset via the Amazon website? My screen has gone wrong and someone told me a factory reset might fix it but, wouldn't you know it, the settings menu is in the corner that I can no longer read. I've tried everything else (hard reset etc) so I'm clutching at straws. Have been offered new Kindle at 20% discount but don't really want to pay out money until I've explored every avenue.

Suze says:
louise it sounds like your screen is screwed and unfortunately that can't be fixed by a factory reset.

Thanks, Suze. I feared that was the case.
