We have a new, free software update available for Kindle Paperwhite which can be found here:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/kindlesoftwareupdates/paperwhite

The software update will be delivered wirelessly and includes feature enhancements and general improvements for your Kindle Paperwhite.

This update automatically downloads and installs for Kindle Paperwhite customers; however, you can also download the software manually and update your device via USB cable.

The software update includes the following enhancements:

* View full definition when looking up a word

When you look up a word in the dictionary, you can now view the full definition in the definition window.

* Search enhancements

You can easily search for a highlighted word or phrase in your book, your items, or in the Kindle Store. Highlight the word or phrase, select More, and then select Search.

If you have any questions or need help with this update, please contact Kindle Support.

@MW: Not a very helpful thread to post your point to (It's a dedicated thread for Paperwhite software update)

To cover your comment - perhaps email Amazon directly so that they can address your point - they do not read or address these forums.
If you have recently purchased your Fire contact Amazon who will fully refund you if it's less than 30 days. Not sure there are other tablets that offer a download facility beyond the Fire one.

First time posting comment - didn't realise it was dedicated to one subject.
Have dealt directly with Amazon but very vague.
Sorry

My paperwhite is 5.3.1, if I transfer this update will it include all the updates between this and my current one, ie 5.3.2 etc

Damaskcat says:
No you would need to do all of them individually and in the right order - or leave Wi-Fi on and let the device do it by itself.

Am I missing anything major by not having them or is it something recommended to do, always have my wireless on but never had an update occur automatically.

Damaskcat says:
I'm sorry but you would need to read all the details of each update to see what was included. I don't think there's been anything obvious. You might want to contact Amazon if you've not received the updates as they should come through automatically if you always have Wi-Fi on.

I hadn't read the instructions - sorry. I just recalled people posting in the past that previous ones needed to be done first on other Kindles - but maybe they were major updates.

I was surprised by the last KK update because I didn't think we'd get any more!

I updated. I was trying to hold out and see if it would be pushed out to me over the air. However I very rarely have the wifi on. I've always done my updates manually. Even going back to KK.

Can anyone tell me, I have just ordered the Kindle Fire and I think that I have made a mistake and should have ordered the paperwhite. Is there a lot of difference between the two. I have just read that you cannot see the fire in the sunshine,
is this correct and also does it have a built in light.
Just tried to cancel the order, but they say it cannot be cancelled.

Denis Powell says:
The Fire is a tablet and not good for reading in direct sunlight. For that you would be better served by a Paperwhite which can be used both in sunlight and darkness. It has, however, no audio or video capabilities and only a very basic browser.

When your Fire arrives, if you don't want it, contact Customer Services and arrange to return it for a refund.

Willis&Wilma says:
Hi I did actually try can cancel the order but they say it cannot be cancelled at this time. Shame!
I will send it back, is it best not to accept when delivered or to send back once taken in.
Also, how long does it take for refund to come through as \I want to order the paperwhite.

(KINDLE FORUM PRO)
it's better to send it back in yourself

In reply to an earlier post on 7 May 2013 15:20:14 BDT
Denis Powell says:
It's probably best to accept delivery. Amazon will arrange to have it collected.

I'd ask Customer Services about how long it will take for refund to be processed if I were you.

In reply to an earlier post on 7 May 2013 16:52:02 BDT
Amazon's refund policy is very generous. You can try the item out and you have 30 days to return it. So if you wanted to you could try it out see how you get on with it and if you don't like it send it back. However if you need to get the refund before you can buy the paperwhite, then it might be better to return it as soon as possible.
