Suze says:
It's always been used here. I can still remember a lecture we all got at school for using it as often as we could get away with. One of the girls in class was quite ignorant and cocky, and she used to talk to the teachers while chewing gum rather noisily and saying 'well, yer know, like, I aren't dun my homework, because well, like..."
Don't know how she got away with it.

I'm thinking it was more his daughter who talked like that

Moon Unit or whatever her name was

Yeah , he did a song in 1971 , off the 'for drowning witches' album , called ' Valley Girl' , and his daughter , Moon unit , did the voice over - good she was too - the song was a skit on the Valley Girl types.

MOBI files are already compatible with all Kindles.

I really can't see them adding EPUB format to kindle, when they have their own format which works perfectly well.

ALDWIN says:
Hi, I'm sorry i just want to ask if you also notice on a kindle touch that there was lack of security features. If you will check the security features of kindle touch there are some missing security option on my kindle like the security for parental control and security for locking the settings specially the deregistration, I don't know if you guys noticed these on your kindle but on mine there was none. I already talk to the amazon help desk and they said the kindle touch model have no security features like that. So i was surprised why this kind of electronic device have no security options for that kind of security specially on the settings set up. I already email the amazon kindle feedback dept. but until now they have no answer....... Just be aware about that specially when your kids are browsing on your kindle. Please send me your feedback if you also experienced this and how did you come up with it, did you sort it out or your kindle have also lack of security options. Can somebody please help me how to sort it. Thank you..

Denis Powell says:
Aldwin, the only Kindle to have Parental Controls at present is the basic £89 Kindle.

It's possible to password protect all devices although that's of limited value in my opinion but it does stop someone using the device if they find or steal it.

At home, if you've kept the WiFi password secret from your children you can set your Kindle to "forget" it so that it can't connect to wifi, but that too is of limited use if you allow them to take it out of the house. It would be possible for them to connect at a friend's house or a public wifi hotspot.

In my experience children can often find a way around most computer restrictions so it's probably unwise to rely completely on any device Parental Controls. It's almost impossible to prevent them viewing "unsuitable" material on a friend's computer.

The Kindle Fire does have parental controls as well

Denis Powell says:
CBR, you're right but as it's not officially available here I tend to ignore the Fire. I'll have to be more careful in my terminology in future ;-)

What's happening about the azw3 problem is it still happening? Our k4 hasn't updated yet and I'm hoping the problem is sorted before it does. Are people letting amazon know about the issue. What are they saying? Is everyone who has the update having the same issue?

If you press down on the book you want to delete, you get a menu list come up. One option is to "send it to archive". select that.

Pre-ordered so my Kindle Touch should be OK, but I am so disappointed with the limitations of the 3G and wish I had brought the same Version as my husband who seems to be able to use 3G to access the internet even in Europe.

Denis Powell says:
Mrs. Cooper, if you've had your Touch for less than 30 days you can return it for a refund and buy a different version.

Interesting. Mine is version 5.1.0

Has there been a recent update then?

Dave, the latest software version is 5.1.0, I've just had a look on the support pages.

Edit, missed part of the version number off :-)

In reply to an earlier post on 7 Jul 2012 09:19:38 BDT
Denis Powell says:
Suze, that's true but some people have version 5.1.1 showing on their Kindles. It appears to be more common on European devices, but I'm not sure anyone outside of Amazon know what the difference is or why some devices don't have it.

I've recently had an update for the Store application but my Touch still shows 5.1.0 so I don't think it's that.

Thanks Suze.

That's intriguing Denis, I wonder what it could be. Presumably something pretty minor or I'd have expected it to be 5.2.0 .

Dave.
