I only know such rubbish because my OH tells me. I live in my own little bubble otherwise and let the world pass me by.

That sounds better than what I got. I was told I just looked vacant. All the lights are on but nobody home sort of thing.

Oh, I'm all there, but it was funny at the time. It was my sister who said it by the way. She hasn't been on here for a bit has she, must be busy.

sisters and brothers are often saying cruel things - you seem to be as sharp as a razor , to me.

Thanks Brian, you want to hear what I say to her sometimes. We each give as good as we get, but we love each other to pieces.

Kindle will not open or shut down. Stuck in standby mode. Other than using coal hammer any suggestion welcome. Have tried with kindle attached to laptop and/or desktop in both xp and win7, no joy. Pressed on/off button on base, green light just flashes and screen stays the same on standby.

B Spencer, have you tried a restart?

If you're unsure of the state of the battery state, charge the Kindle for at least 30 minutes. Depending on which model you have, hold the power switch to the on position for 20 seconds (slow count to 30 if you don't have a second hand on your watch) and then release. Over a period of some minutes the screen will go blank, a progress bar will appear and eventually the Home screen. At first it will look as if you've lost all your books but you haven't. The device is gathering the information. It's very important that during this time you don't press any buttons. When all your books appear the Kindle is ready to use.

Comet has not gone into receivership recently and is still trading under the name "Comet". It sold 10 stores and 12 service centres last year to avoid going into receivership. It is still owned by KESA which is a huge european company although KESA have stated that they would be interested in selling Comet.

Comet also secured funding from its banks which see's it safely through to the end of 2013.

Toni Sleddon says:
I have had 2 Kindles & each have been faulty right from the word go.
Problems with only half a page appearing & constantly having to shuffle backwards & forwards to get the full page to download.
Now I cant open any books at all & have a blank screen with the title of the book at the top.
Both were Kindle TOuch.
Kindle hadnt a clue what was wrong with either of them.
I am very disappointed & have lost confidence in them.
All I want to do is to read a book!!!

I presume if you rang Kindle support that they asked you to do a restart?

K. A. Newton says:
Ring customer service. They might send you another or offer one at a reduced price. If they do - once your connect to WiFi and everything done all your books will be archived and you can download them in time for your holiday.

I think it can depend on your Kindle's age. Try it, you can't lose by trying.
