As there has been something similar on the US site for some time I don't think this is a knee jerk reaction to recent events. I actually prefer to have the promo stuff separate and I shall probably spend as much time on the meet the authors forum as I do here because I ike looking for new uthors to read.

Gee, thanks Leather, Rocky etc. You've spoilt it for everyone.
Anyone who would like to take over Kindle FAQS is welcome. It hasn't been updated in months and I won't be updating it for the new Kindles. It will still be there if anyone wants to bump it :O)
I'll hang around to see how it goes, but I definitely think it will get boring with the less variety.
As I see it, all that the regular authors who've contributed as well as promo'd has to do is email one of us to start a thread about their new release :O) Presumably then they can answer questions and contribute. If Amazon stop us mentioning books then what is a Kindle Forum for?
I think those new to Kindle this Christmas may find that they have to do more thread searching for an answer than those who were new last Christmas.

As this is the "Kindle Forum" are we going to get questions about lighted covers for the Kindle Fire when it is released here?

somebody is bound to ask how to light it

I very much doubt that the decision is due to what has happened recently. It has happened in the US and was bound to follow here. Also, to my knowledge there have been very few threads by authors other than Rocky and it is all too convenient to blame Stephen Leather when he has hardly promoted on here recently. Yes, there was last year, bla, bla, bla but that was last year.

It's not the authors to blame but the moaning forum users IMO - well, now you have what you wanted all along, hope it makes you all happy!

Posted on 16 Dec 2011 18:40:31 GMT
@Princess
I think you'll find that it happened in the States PRECISELY because authors were doing "Rocky Perry"s over there.

well someone told me about this so felt that i would come on to say that i do have a small kindle lovers forum and any who wish to do so can join us if they so wish i am happy to have authors promote their books but not to behave as some have on here which spoilt it for the other decent authors oh and my forum is moderated by myself and one other and the link is in my profile

@ POW,

Unfortunately he had supporters on both sides of the pond encouraging him to do it.

@CC.
As was to be expected, it looks as though the "no" voting cowards were amongst them.

Princess says:
I down voted you down because I'm bored to death about people talking about no voting.

*stands up and applauds* couldn't agree more.
I was no fan of the rockmister as my posts would show but to blame him for this when the US already had this in place is a little too easy IMO.

Whilst I am sorry for the authors who didn't abuse the forum I will shed no tears for certain other authors. The forum will be a better place without them.

Thanks, I just wish folk would stop abusing no-voters. They are people, they have feelings and rights too!! ;o)

I think this is a shame - Just thin how many people on this site were engaged by Carl Ashmore's TH2 post!

Interesting, Simon :o) '...all "shameless self-promotion" activity...' Lol. I wonder what kind of penalty Amazon can impose for that! :o)

afraid I'm not with you on the no voters.

Of course there will be a new intake over Christmas and every single new kindle owner will download a book. My first non-free book was a forum promo.

If I was an author I would want a plug at Christmas.

Hi @POW, it amused me to plug the goodreads group in an amazon announcement about author promotions. I don't even think I broke any rules.... why don't you join us?

Quiz question.
Who first coined the phrase 'shameless self promotion' on this forum?

The person who gets the answer first wins platinum membership to the best goodreads group in the UK.
