My Kindle's only been with me since November last year & has already been on two holidays with me! Clearly, she is very spoilt =D

She's passed through X-Ray machines & everything & been fine. I didn't even turn her off during take off/landing (I just put her in my handbag). It'll be fine!

She's been to NYC & Italy & will be going on a cruise with me in September!

Thank you for this info Ms. K N L Walker :-)
You've clearly had some wonderful holidays, and I'm sure your Kindle enjoyed them as well :-)
I love Italy and all things Italian, and would live there if I could :-) As I can't I'll content myself with holidays :-)
Enjoy your forthcoming cruise....I am of course very envious :-)

I have just turned on my Wi-Fi to buy a book, however I am now unable to turn if off the command to do this has disappeared from my menu screen, has anyone else had this problem? and if so how do you overcome it?

Princess says:
Hi Glenda - You go to menu, settings, aeroplane mode. On = wifi is off. It changed with the recent update.

Peter Lee says:
For info I went on an aeroplane yesterday (Thomson airways) and during their pre-departure announcement they asked that all electronic equipment including e-book readers was switched off during take-off and landing, and while the captain had the seat belt sign illuminated. They then said that during the rest of the flight you could use these as long as you had the wireless connection disabled (now also known as "airplane mode" being enabled for Kindles). As for X-ray machines I switched mine off completely before passing through these and when we originally flew out from the UK and I was asked if I had a laptop I mentioned the Kindle and was told that it could stay in my hand luggage. While we were away we were both using our Kindles in direct sunlight and temperatures in the 40s and they behaved perfectly.

Very good advice Peter...I always turn mine off along with my phone. Some people insist that it doesn't matter, Blah, Blah Blah! But it takes a second to turn it off and I can't see the problem, not worth the tiny risk of damaging a fav item just to prove a point.
