I wonder why it wouldn't be in Amazon's interest? It'd be nice to hear their point of view!

@Com: You can only do 2 things to "repair" a Kindle - Reset it by pressing the power button or Restore Factory Defaults.

There are pages on here of people asking the SAME QUESTION on how to do these really simple tasks.
And you wonder why Amazon despair of the human race being able to cope with a new option of gifting books and not screwing it up and then demanding a facility to repair their mistakes?
Good Lord, 4 million posts are about how difficult it is to read a LCD screen in sunlight. Next there will 44 million posts asking how to read!

Moi? Cynical?

Com, the gift card "customisation" here is pretty close to what you need: . My guess is that the UK Kindle infrastructure is so different to the US (as are and that it's just not easy to gift in the UK, otherwise of course they'd do it.

it's not available on the other kindle stores either; (they don't even have wish lists) (ditto) (no wish lists either)
and I may have forgotten one or two

the stores with no wish lists sell no physical items and Amazon seems to regard wish lists as being primarily for physical items

One of the problems in these discussions I'd that people start by saying one thing and then add more information later. If you'd said that the book was wanted my reply would have been different.

Have you checked to see if the book is available from a source that allows Gifting?

My sincerest apologies Denis, I just didn't think that anyone would be bothered hearing about the ins-and-outs of what I'd like to buy my boyfriend for his birthday. I thought outlining that I'd like to buy a book as a present would suffice information-wise.

I appreciate your help and advice. It's available from, but I can't gift from there. Any other website that offers ebooks (eg: nook, kobo, Eason, iBooks....etc) don't have the book that I'm looking for.

have you tried the actual publisher's website - often they offer ebooks directly (this is what Denis is suggesting)
