Actually, you can download games and videos on to the Fire without wifi (for example if you rip your own DVD) and games etc can be sideloaded. Whether you would actually want to do that depends on your DVD collection and how comfortable you are with putting apps on from different sources.

Neither (DVD or games) are particularly easy though and you won't get the full use of it without Wifi. You can also set one up, but just leave it turned off unless you want it running. You could also set it up with a DNS server setting pointing to your own private DNS servers and control name resolution that way (so they only get amazon servers) but that isn't particularly easy either.

Bad enough trying to get your ears around Glaswegian let alone gaelic.

I worked with a young man who was having a terrible time in Manchester getting people to understand him while we were working together. Eventually I got my ears around the accent and used to go home and drive my H mad laughing at the TV program with the guy in the string vest. H could not understand the language.

I have bought all the series of dvds but if anyone else in present when I am watching I have to put the English subtitles on.

For some silly reason the Brummie accent actually annoys me - memories of Crossroads I suppose, but I love the accents of the North East. Ridiculous and totally irrelevant to people's personalities and actions which is really what we should try to understand.
