Sharon, Denis is being helpful. A point which seems to have evaded you.
Ranting will not ellicit help.

Denis Powell says:
Sharon, Amazon UK didn't sell the first generation Fire if that's what you have. The 2nd Generation Fire, including the HD works fully in the UK if registered to amazon.co.uk with a UK address and a UK bank card.

I have the HD and can have 1 month free LoveFilm. I'm already a Prime member so have access to the KOLL too. You can't install US only apps for licensing reasons, just like ebooks. Similarly US owners can't buy apps when in this country or access BBC iPlayer when in the US, again because the can't buy a BBC License.

I read a lot of these threads with people having problems and if you read them I think you will find that Denis Powell is an absolute gem, who literally spends hours each day answering the same queries over and over again, not because he works for Amazon, but because he is being helpful to new kindle owners. He certainly doesnt deserve to be ranted at.

Denis Powell says:
Sharon, even US owners are unable to stream such media when outside the US. Unfortunately to have the same options as US residents you have to live in the US.

You have access to whatever apps are available in the .fr appstore. In the UK we don't have access to those so we can't say which ones are available. You'd need to ask in the .fr forum.

You're not any class of US citizen just as I'm not any class of French citizen. I don't have access to many things people in other countries have but I don't expect to. It's just the way things are.

Denis - You seem to be a man in the know.... !! Can you help me. While on holiday in the States I purchased a Kindle HD Fire for my husband for a christmas present. Today I am trying to set it up (live in Ireland), I've changed my country to Ireland in the Kindle settings as it says if you have moved country you can change your settings. It has allowed me to purchase a book on line however when it comes to downloading free apps it it telling my "Country Settings not supported" and it says click on the banner message to learn more about transferring your account and changing your country settings. So am I correct in thinking I cannot download any apps on the kindle now unless I'm living or holidaying in the USA?. Thansk Denis - Sheila

Denis Powell says:
The Fire is only fully operational in those countries that have a Kindle App Store. Even US owners wouldn't be able to buy apps from Amazon while holidaying in Ireland.

To get an App from any of the App Storez you have to be physically present in that country and have an address in that country together with a bank card registered in that country.

In Ireland the Fire is very limited in it's capabilities but you can get free apps from the goodereader and 1mobile app stores which you can install on your Fire.

You shouldn't have any problems buying apps if :

1. your kindle is registered to amazon.co.uk
2. you live in the UK and your country and address are in the UK
3. you have a credit card with a UK billing address as your Kindle Payment Settings default

the customer service rep was wrong - if you meet those three criteria, you can buy and purchase apps while in the UK from amazon.co.uk

there are lots of people on this board that arre successfully downloading and buying apps from amazon.co.uk and the same is true on amazon.fr

well, then she needs to register her Fire to amazon.fr or else do like I've done and sideload apps

all I saw was her talking about the UK - sorry, this place is calm compared to the US site right now and I'm trying to help the Irish on both sites (may even be the same Irish- it's all starting to blur together)

and I'm freezing

Hey there. I've got a similar problem - I can't download apps to my kindle fire hd, there is always the pop up that I have to check that my billing and payment method are from a supporting country. I do live in the US, have a US credit card and a US address. I can't download any app. what is wrong? I registered my kindle with my .com Amazon account - BUT I made this account while I was in Germany. could that be th problem? I can't think about anything else, since I changes every setting to th United states.

Nicole: No good asking us, we are in the UK here. Try Amazon.com rather than Amazon.co.uk.

I don't want to purchase apps from the uk - what I'm saying is I wasn't aware of those restrictions and wanted to purchase apps from the .com of amazon! - Sorry if there was any confusion. and really it doesn't matter , I don't understand why these things have to have country borders.. I am not resident in the Uk and my card is a UK card with a French address so what does that mean? - People travel these days so surely the point of a kindle is to be mobile?.. and to save hassle.. but it doesn't ...you are meant to know everything before you buy. I think its just an amazon con..

In reply to an earlier post on 27 Dec 2012 09:20:45 GMT
Yes that's an appropriate name Kelp bed - I did do my research but when I bought the fire it was only available in the US - the boards for discussion were us based or UK but 'pie in the sky' as it hadn't arrived yet. I was just looking for help but see that its just dog eat dog out there now! - Think I'll forget the apps...

BMM says:
I had the same problem with purchasing/downloading apps from my new kindle. I lived in Germany several years ago when I first set-up my Amazon account and it was still registered there. I just used the 'contact us' link to have them call me back and they sorted it within a couple of minutes.

In reply to an earlier post on 27 Dec 2012 22:59:14 GMT
Hi BMM - that was the first thing I did and again and again - They couldn't have been nicer - but still couldn't deliver what I had paid for. Maybe its because its a new model over here -the moral is wait until somethings been around for a while before you buy it.!! We can get more stuff already but the point is their advertising is still extremely misleading and if it was me as a private company and not Amazon who was advertising in such a way I would be asked to remove my adverts and possibly my product. Amazon however seems to be getting away with it - much like some other things it gets away with.!!!

When I told customer service I would complain to the advertising standards agency they said I should because what I had paid for was not being delivered- maybe one day! I'll let you all know what the asa says..

Maybe, talk to the other person on the other end of the phone like they are a human being helps too!!
Oh no. Showing my age here ...
Why not make your own thread about it then.
Or go to advertising standards.
Or just give over about it..

Ps. kelp is quite a cute and sexy name....:)

Hi is this what you use to download your apps?? Does it work good? And did you ever fix your Kindle?

fix my kindle?

it works exactly as it's supposed to work, but with non-amazon apps - I have to stress that this was my decision as I could have migrated my amazon account to amazon.fr and downloaded apps there, but as I'm only in France for another year, I chose to stay with amazon.com and get apps elsewhere
