Denis Powell says:
Skype is only possible on the Fire HD, not the Fire.

If you have the HD model then the app is in your Cloud account, go to Apps, Cloud and you'll find it there. Tap the icon and it will download and install.

Chris Wright says:
I bought a Kindle Fire HD a week ago with the intention of keeping in visual contact with my daughter and her family who live 200 miles away. We have tried several times during the week, but although we can speak to each other and I can see her, she cannot see me even though the video icon is 'on'. I am so mad I feel like asking for my money back!

I can't find a way for it to be installed, it would however be good for me to have if you can message people there

I have NO IDEA how it will work, but this FAQ suggest it might be possible to get Skype from somewhere other than Google Play:

Claire.
Then none Kindle Fire does not have a camera so I don't see how Skype would work on it anyway..

DaveyH says:
You can just use Skype for textual messaging, it doesn't have to transmit video.

Mr. Rm Rune says:
can't sign in to Skype on my Kindle Fire HD, the first day I had it I could but now it doesn't recognize my username or password. What am I supposed to do?

In reply to an earlier post on 27 Dec 2012 16:56:20 GMT
Claire says:
Thought you might be able to just message people on there like you can on Apple devices. However, if it is camera only then it is understandable why it is not available.

In reply to an earlier post on 27 Dec 2012 17:22:46 GMT
Kelp Bed says:
See post from Davey H above.
It may be possible to get the app for text messaging only.
But don't have the necessary inf on this.
Perhaps research more into it.
Would be interested in how you get on for future reference...

My sons are Skype addicts and some of their friends who don't have webcams still manage it use it like text messaging, so in theory it should work like that on the Fire.

ChrisJ says:
It would be good if one of the clever people with a Fire (not Fire HD) and an Android phone could do some experimentation for us!
Get Skype for the Android phone from Google play, and then copy the files (NO idea which ones!, but I think someone reported on here over the past week it was possible with a different application) across to the Fire to see how it worked.

I have a kindle fire (not HD) but there is a camera on the front.... Skype is not pre-installed and I can't find it in the app store but what's the point of having the camera if I can't use Skype? :/

Denis Powell says:
Where do you see the Camera?

If you can see one you may have a Fire HD, and the app isn't in the app store - it's pre-installed in the Cloud for HD owners. That's where they install it from.

A. Dietz says:
KM, there is no camera and no microphone on the regular Kindle Fire. If you're seeing a small circle in the upper left corner when you hold the Kindle Fire in a portrait position, that's a deactivated light sensor. Only the Kindle Fire HD models currently have a camera.

In reply to an earlier post on 31 Jan 2013 21:21:37 GMT
It is really easy to do
