Don't feel mean, I simply gave it to my Father. He's trying it out and if he doesn't like it, I will sell it.

That's brilliant. So, did you get one or are you waiting.

Hmm, I could, couldn't I. I also have lots of vouchers to spend on new books, because that's how I took payment.

You don't need to be a millionaire in order to get the tinted glasses, but they are not cheap. Having said that the £400 you are quoting tells me that you've not really searched that much. You can get a pair of tinted, prescription lenses, for between £250 - £300. Plain lenses without a prescription are much cheaper.

and why not a Basic Kindle (K4) - it's even cheaper and you can touch the screen w/o worrying

as far as turning off the touch, if you did so, then you wouldn't be able to use the Xray or turn the page.

They are often cheaper on line than at a high street shop as well.

K4 doesn't do sound though so text-to-speach would be a non-starter.

Dave.

I can get a pair of tinted lenses for less than that even. I don't need tinted lenses as they don't work. I've tried. I need Irlen lenses. There are over 1000 colour combinations. Irlen lenses are about 250+ the cost of glasses + the Irlen assessment.

I am dyslexic and I have a similar problem with losing my place and line jumping especially when I am tired.

I use a postcard to scroll down the screen line by line. The touch screen is embedded so it does not react to the card. It is a bit fiddly to begin with but I got used to it very quickly and don't notice I am doing it now. It could be a cost free solution.

I used to read a book a month before the kindle and I read at least 3 books each month now. I am also reading far larger books than I ever would before. The font sizes and quick reference dictionary are excellent. I hope the same will be true for you and your wife.

Good tip, I hope it proves useful to others.

Using a ruler or card either below or above the line you are reading may enable you to use your finger to keep your place on the Touch. It is true the screen is clearer than on the K4. If print size on the K4 does not make the words clear enough, then finding a way to touch the touch without touching, so to speak, is the answer. Good luck.
