I'm very pleased with mine but cannot get my Windows XP computer to recognise it via the USB cable. I have other Kindles including the 7" Fire HD which links up to the PC with no problem Why doesn't the 8.9" one link up? Any advice appreciated.

Hello J.M. I am nobody's expert but a similar prob with a small Digital Camera occurred and I was advised - online as it were - to get a driver - I applied - again on line - and had one then it went just fine
Also - the printer had a driver installed which had to be replaced / updated - or something - now this is just a thought - does this - I hope so - make sense to you
I hope you have success with it any how

Thanks for the advice PE! I couldn't find a driver via Amazon but went on the web and downloaded ones which said they were for the Kindle HD 8.9 but it still refuses to be recognised. It's odd that the smaller Fire HD is recognised instantly, and the driver should be much the same I would think. I've got a lot of ebooks bought legally but not from Amazon and which I'd like to USB across. I may try the Amazon Kindle helpline

Why not e-mail your books?

In reply to an earlier post on 17 Jul 2013 18:06:52 BDT
Denis Powell says:
You could always email the books to your Fire using the email address or use the Windows Add-On, Send to Kindle for PC.

You can install the latter from here:

Denis Powell says:
One advantage of using Send to Kindle for non-Amazon books is that you can change the book title if you wish. This is especially useful if you're buying books in a series as you can include the series name and number. You can also send those books only to Archive/Cloud if you don't want them on the device at this time.

Denis - this is just great - I did not know of any of this - I shall have to get busy right now
Thanks !!

If you are already a member with Love Film in the house, can you still receive it on the KF on the same contract ?

Paul, this is very public forum and as you're using your email address as your "name" you've just given it to the whole world. If you start getting a lot of spam you'll know the reason why.

Hi all

I am seriously debating getting the Fire tablet. At the moment I have a "baby" Kindle which I always use for reading and love it.

Do those of you that have both now only read on your Kindle Fire?

Also I had previously wanted an iPad are those of you that have the Kindle Fire HD8.9 happy with it?
Is it worth paying the extra for no adverts?
Is 32GB enough?
I'm aware that it doesn't have cellular - are there any plans to bring one out that has cellular? If so would it be worth waiting for one of these? I'm not sure really if I would use it out of the house as I do have an iPhone and can access the internet if I need to from that.
Are there enough apps - games etc? Any that you'd particularly recommend?
Really though my laptop is getting old and slow and I really love the idea of a tablet and knowing how much I love my baby Kindle I thought I might like this one too. Can anyone offer me any advice good or bad please :)

I like to read outdoors and while traveling so although I have a Fire HD I still do most of my reading on my Paperwhite as the Fire is poor in sunlight. It's also heavier and holding it one handed can be tiring.

The ads only appear on the Sleep screen so I don't take much notice of them but I have discovered some interesting books and apps that way. Personally, I see no point in paying extra money for the standard screensaver pictures.

32 GB isn't enough if you want dozens of movies, thousands of mp3s etc., but if you buy most of your media from Amazon you can download it as and when you need it. You can buy wireless enabled portable hard drives for extra storage. If, however, you feel that's not appropriate then you need to buy a tablet that has an SD Card reader or USB port built in.

I think we'll have to wait until 4G becomes more widespread and there are more companies in the market before a 4G model appears and contracts for those are likely to be quite expensive. In the US they're paying around £10 per month for 250 MB of data. You could buy a 3G MiFi with a plan that wood cost you, currently, around £11 per month for 1 GB of data and you could connect both your Kindles. Your mobile phone may also have that facility already.

Thank you Denis.

I was only until this morning considering getting the KF HD but now others have put another Tablet in my head and I am again at a crossroads! I so don't know what to do again! May have to start a separate thread as I have searched and searched and can't find the answers I need.

I think the 32GB will be fine for me, strangely I'm not a big listener or storer of music.

I really wanted a KF before they were released over here too, grr.
