I don't bother with Prime.
I always choose "Free Delivery"
It's superb.

Do you have a "non-fancy" e-reader you'd recommend?

Hi
I have been signed up to prime for some time. I use Amazon a lot and have never had any problems. Overall, it saves me a lot. Regarding the e-readers, I have the Kindle Keyboard, Touch and the Fire HD. I think they are great and really deliver at lot for their price..

If you let us know what your Kindle is failing to deliver we might be able to help you. Mine all seem to be excellent.

I used to use Prime and had no problems with it. It was due for renewal in September and I opted to cancel it and make do with free super saver delivery in the meantime. Never had a problem with Prime, anything I ordered that was in stock arrived the next day, and normally before noon. With free super saver delivery currently, I'm finding a lot of things I've ordered from Amazon EU SARL arrive the next day anyway, and normally 2-3 days after ordering from anyone else.

It's unfortunate that some people have had one or two issues with next day delivery with Prime, but it is an exception, not a norm.

It's free, you tried it, you were unlucky and it didn't work well for you...but why say don't bother? If something is a free offer I'm always happy to give it a go, if it doesn't work for me then I won't bother to pay for it and when my Kindle Fire arrives I will give it a try. I doubt I'll swap over to it though as I've always found that the free super saver delivery has worked well for me, never had to wait more than 3 days for anything.

As for the Kindle being "little more than a fancy e reader" may I ask what more you expected of it?

I had the free Prime for a month. Ordered a book for 9 (Hubbys Xmas) on guaranteed next day delivery. It took a whole 2 days to arrive and they credited my account with 7!! They do compensate.

Prime Membership.

I love it and the free borrowing a book a month is the cream on the top of the cake.

I borrowed my first book on the first of a month so on the first of each new month I look for a new book.

This month I chose a biography of Mario Lanza which I am reading for free - The cost of book to buy on Kindle is - - - - 30-17.

I would never pay 30 for a biography.

How did I find this book ?

Mario Lanza An American Tragedy (Great Voices)

I entered under Kindle Store - "Prime Eligibles" - and changed the Sort box to "High to Low".

The very expensive books available to borrow for free did not interest me except for one about the Titanic which, unfortunately. was in Albanian. LOL. So I had to look further down in price.

I was given a Kindle Fire as a birthday present two days ago and was " offered" free Prime for a month, now it seems to have disappeared from my account?

Check with customer services perhaps.
Click the "help" button and follow the links.
Phone back option is usually pretty good...

The free trial should start when you first activate your Fire. Is it possible the person who gave it you had already tried it out and activated it perhaps? If so, I'd explain to Amazon and they'll hopefully "reset" the free trial for you.

Thanks for your suggestions, I used the call back option,a really useful idea, why don't more companies employ this? It seems the trial was cancelled in error due to Amazon tech. problems but I have now been re-instated as a Prime member :)

Been a long time member of Amazon Prime and it's always been great, order on Thu/Fri before 4/6pm for a Fri/Sat delivery which otherwise costs 4.99. After my 10th purchase, every single next day delivery is, in fact, really 'free' - so no complains what-so-ever especially when my big electronic purchases are guaranteed free the next day and delivered to my door not giving me any waiting pangs if sent by standard delivery. Also, since mid 2012, some of couriers send emails/smses confirming the person and HOUR when it will be delivered - impressed :-)

Ken

I bought the Hardback in 2005, partly for the CD that came with it because it contained some unreleased private recordings.

I found it a very interesting read. It cost me 23 new.

I was asking about prime in dot com recently. It looks like it's an option that's more useful in US because longer distances and higher delivery charges are the norm.

You have to do the actual borrowing for your book via your Kindle not through your laptop. I search out my choice of book on laptop as it is easier to read the description on there.

Then

Go to Kindle store on your kindle e-reader or Kindle Fire and once in store select Kindle Lending Library. Enter Mario Lanzo in the search thingy. I think there are only two books about him. Select the correct one - read about the book to check it is right one and carefully select BORROW not buy.
