Do you have Wireless on? Do you have any apps running in the background such as an email app?

Restart the device. Hold the power button in for a slow count to 20 seconds and then release.
If no good, reset to factory default settings.

Mine is dreadful at losing its charge. I have a cover that is supposed to turn the thing off when closed; it doesn't always do so! I have taken to making sure it's off, but it is still necessary to charge it every day.

My first Kindle - one of the original sort - which unfortunately I sat on (it was in the back pocket of my jeans) held its charge for weeks.

David, the Fire HDX is a totally different device to your original Kindle so you shouldn't expect the battery life to be the same.

Time between charges can vary from less than 3 hours to over 20 depending on what you're using it for and the settings. If you're using it for a variety of different things about 10 hours is a reasonable time between charges but some games will give you considerably less than that.

Thank you for your reply I thought it was something I was doing I took it back to the shop and they gave me a new one but it is still the same I to have a cover and it should turn it off when closed I have started to turn mine off I have to charge mine every day. I had a Kindle and it was really good held the charge for days but this HDX is something else. Thank you very much I feel a little better now .

You cannot compare the battery life of a tablet with the battery life of an e-reader - they are completely different devices.

I'm forever charging it. Its a pain because it takes so long to charge and so quick to run out. I don't know if these batteries work like the older rechargeables where you are better off letting it run completely out of power then charging it to capacity to get the best out of it but at the moment two hours use and its too low to use. Rubbish.
Typing errors is another thing that winds me up. I wish it would just do what I type and stop changing my words. I'm trying my best to like it but its not working. I feel like we are the guinea pigs for the next model.

Papa, you've not given us much useful information. Nowhere have you said which device you're talking about. You don't say how you're charging it.

I'm going to guess you're talking about a Fire, in which case are you using a Fast Charger, a standard USB charger or your Computer to charge it?

How quickly the charge depletes will depend on how it's used. Mine will last anything from around 2 hours to over 20 hours, depending on usage. Draining the battery completely can damage a LiPoly battery beyond repair, and will do so if you fully discharge completely on a regular basis. They have no "memory effect".

You can turn off by long touching the Space bar of the keyboard, selecting Keyboard Settings and turning off Auto-Corrections and Next Word Predictions.
