can't get into books which are archived items....help!!

Got a new touch kindle to replace an old kindle, my books have transferred but are in archived items and when ever I tap on one to open ....nothing

No, your books haven't transferred Jock, only the titles of the books you have previously purchased. The books now need to be individually downloaded from Amazon with your wi-fi on by selecting each title in turn in the Kindle's Archive list.

Don't tap on the title ... pause your finger on it until a menu opens offering you the choice to add it to your Home Page and the book file will then download.

Dave you can just tap on the title, it's what I do, and there don't seem to be any repercussions.

Yes, I stand corrected Suze. Tapping seems to bring down immediately, whereas pausing over the title offers a menu with choices. Thanks for that.

It's my lazy ways. I didn't bother looking at the instructions until I'd had the thing a week. I just tapped on everything to see what worked and what didn't.

here's my cure-alls for book downloading:

1. Turn on wireless and do a sync and check for new items
2. next, look in your archives and see if it's there - if so click/tap on it and it will download
3. go to your Manage Your Kindle page on http://amazon.co.uk, hover over the actions button next to the title and select send to Kindle (make sure you pick the correct kindle if you have more than one registered to your account), then turn on you wireless and do a sync and check for new items
4. reboot/reset your kinde (hold power button in for 30 seconds), the start at step 1
5. try to send to your kindle through usb ( http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/customer/display.html/ref=hp_k4land_trans_usb?nodeId=200728710#usb )
6. contact customer support

to download? mine has been saying pending for last half hour.

Where are you seeing the pending? If it's just in Kindle orders on your Amazon account that doesn't mean it hasn't been downloaded. to your Kindle.

no seeing pending on my kindle underneath the name of book, in archived items....the book title has also grey. I'm new to kindle just bought it yesterday...on my amazon account, it says it's a completed order.

Miss Maher, when my kindle touch download is grey and says pending, it is usually because the wi fi is not on. Once on it should download near enough straight away. Could also try to download another book (FREEBIE: from KUForum.co.ukfree-ebooks/latest/) to see if this clears it. To turn on wifi, touch menu on home page, at top menu that comes up is wifi on/off. If no luck try customer service.

I occasionally have a book download stall but a restart always cures the problem.

CBRetriever I wonder if you could help me? I download to both kindle and pc, on my pc...when i download it goes to archive, then i double click to download to file and it empties my archive folder on pc, is this correct...where are my books stored? much appreciate any comments.

In a folder called "My Kindle Content" which is probably in your "My Documents" folder.
