I have the kindle that is £89. Downloaded 4 books for holiday not even used it other than that and it just won't power up.

I have tried to charge it, green light comes on but nothing. All I have on the screen is a picture of pencils......

Hopefully someone can help, I have read other posts but my kindle does not have a slide power switch

Thanks

Anya Brienza says:
Press and hold the power button to the count of 20. This will reset it.

Shirtybird says:
Did you hold the button in until the page went white?
It should go white when completely turned off then leave it for at least 10 minutes without touching it. Hopefully this will kick start it again.

The screen didn't change at all. The same picture of pencils is on it.

Also when I charge it the light is orange. Is this right?

Do I just hold the off button, know others?

Thanks again for your help

The green light indicates that your Kindle is fully charged, but you may need to leave it on charge overnight. I would try the reset for 30 seconds (no, don't press any other buttons), if that fails then I'm afraid it's a call to Customer Services. Amazon will send you a replacement if they can't sort out the problem.

Are you charging via USB or Mains? You may have a faulty lead, most Mobile phone chargers will work with your Kindle - you could try that. Good luck

Anya Brienza says:
If the light is orange then it's still charging, green indicates fully charged. Has light gone green yet?

Shirtybird says:
Hold the on/off button in UNTIL the page goes white. Also try charging via a computer if the mains charge isn't working.

Oracle says:
You need to wait longer than the page going white to reset it. When the page goes white that's just switching it off. To reset hold for 30 seconds.

Watch out for high premium kindle help lines that just get you to the page on the Amazon website that you would have got to if you'd just perservered a bit longer

It's very easy to find a way of contacting Amazon - there's a help button top and bottom of each page of the site. Easier than searching the internet.

Mardigras says:
Unplug Kindle Keyboard from power adapter or computer.
Slide and release the power button. The LED light that surrounds the power button will display green for two seconds.
Shut down Kindle Keyboard by sliding and holding the power button for five seconds. The LED light will blink three times. Wait for the screen to go blank, then release the power button.
Turn on the Kindle Keyboard by sliding and releasing the power button.
If Kindle Keyboard is still not working, you can perform a hard reset by sliding and holding the power button for 20 seconds.
If Kindle Keyboard is still unresponsive, try charging Kindle Keyboard before trying to restart the device once again.
Make sure you have the latest software version available installed on your Kindle Keyboard. The latest version is available here: http://www.amazon.co.uk/kindlesoftwareupdates
I really hope this helps.
