Mobi files on Kindle app

I have my Kindle on order and whilst I'm awaiting delivery I thought I'd start reading on my Android phone and laptop, using the Kindle apps.
The titles I've purchased from Amazon work fine and I'm getting used to reading in this new format, and even using my tiny Xperia X10 Mini phone reading is still really easy and wonderfully convenient.
However, there was a title I wanted that is not sold by Amazon for Kindle, so I tracked it down on an external site and purchased the MOBI version, which I gather is going to be okay for my Kindle.
Is there a way of getting that MOBI book (and for future reference, a PDF) on to my phone and laptop before I get the Kindle? So far I haven't found any obvious route to follow. Currently the MOBI file is on my laptop C drive.
Thanks!

You can open a mobi file into the pc application, but they will not synchronise and you can't read them on a phone or iPhone app

You need an app that reads mobi files. As it appears from a quick google to run android I suggest you just go via the apps store using mobi as the search term. I would have thought you could email the book to your phone do you have email set up on it? I'd also expect the phone to have come with a cable to connect it to your PC in which case you can just copy it to the appropriate directory on the phone.

FWIW if the book has DRM its unlikely to be readable on your Kindle or Android. What site did you buy it from? Some sites like fictionwise and smashwords dont use DRM so you'd be oK in those cases but others would insist you downloaded via the reader. which manages the DRM. The fact you downloaded it directly is hopeful.

You can put the mobi file into the kindle folder on your storage card of your phone via usb cable or card reader depending on how accessible your sd card is on your phone. it will apppear on your kindle app when you next restart it. This works for me although have not managed to get the cover art working. BTW kindle doesn't do PDF that well in my experience, convert them with third party app on your pc if you can.

Get Calibre. It's a computer library program, free, that collates, converts, displays, and loads books to your device. I've been using it for over a year, have about 10,000 books (Wife and I are voracious readers!), mostly purchased or downloaded from the web. I convert them to .mobi format with Calibre to read them with Kindle products, but the program also has in internal e-book reader that does a good job with most formats. It also has the ability to create "collections" and manage them on your Kindle if you download the free plugin. I've spent months downloading all the metadata from the web with Calibre to "plus-up" the descriptions and covers for my books. I love my Kindle, and Calibre just makes using it so much more fun.

@country, I suspect that suerob has solved her problem by now given that she posted nearly 18 months ago!

LOL - yes, Oracle, you're quite right! Odd, though, that the only responses that seem to have reached me are the two from today.
I did find Calibre a few months back and use it regularly. Very easy and solved my problem.
Thanks to everyone who responded!

Hi. I've acess to a host of MOBI files. I have just downloaded one to my kindle. Now, when I read on my computer the files that are on my Kindle it clearly shows the aforementioned file. However when I open my kindle it is not showing? Any ideas?

Have you put the files in the "documents" folder on your Kindle? That is where they need to go.
