I love my kindle but i have tons and still buy or get given lots of tree books, The other day my daughter wanted a film on so I reached for the box and in huge letters Triple play and i thought what are the chances we will see something like that for books. I am sure every one knows about double and triple play but just in case the idea is simple, you can buy the dvd or blue ray or even buy a digital copy or you can spend a little more and get all 3 types (triple play) this is useful as we only have blu ray downstairs but have ended up with quite a collection of dvd players about the house and my son has his laptop. I just thought it would be nice to have the option to spend a little more on a book and get a code to download a free version for my kindle. A good example would be the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy omnibus i was given for christmas, great at home not so good for on the move :) it would be even better if the page numbers matched so you would always know where to start reading :)

Katherine, I have no problem with the idea as long as we can still get ebooks only and don't end up paying more and forced to get versions we don't want. That seems to be the case with DVDs - it's all or nothing. I don't want Hardbacks or Paperbacks if I can have the eBook and I certainly don't want the problem of storage and disposal. On the other hand I've hardly ever been given a paper book free of charge but Amazon have plenty of ebooks for 99p or less when the paper versions are significantly more.

I think we get a pretty good deal as it is without complicating things.

Malcolm, that's a huge generalisation and I really hope you don't mean it :-) There are many excellent books that are freebies, and they give you the chance to try new authors/genres which you might not do if you paid full price for a book.

I don't really see the point for most "reading" books. Reference books is another matter. I'd appreciate having a paper and ebook version of a manual or cookbook and would be happy to pay a bit extra for the privilege.

There are some publishers this do this already, though not through Amazon.

not really free good books but the option to pay a bit more than normal for the hard/paper back and get a digital version with it ane for curling on the sofa or in the bath the other for travelling with.
