Hello Rita - I am Patricia - aka Patti - you choose -
I did some research for to help you - I have a Kindle Fire 7" I chose that
because of a weak wrist and it is not a heavyweight item IMnsHO
I took this item into the heating cupboard for to test it out - and I can report
"I with not perfect eyesight can read and play scrabble very well indeed
I find the screen quite excellently lit"
Hoping to have helped
I see the post has been deleted - sad that - Rita - I send regards - and hope you are pleased with what you purchase

Software upgrades should be pushed out but...
Will the hardware be able to cope with them or is the hardware able to process them.

An upgrade that grinds your device to halt isn't.

E.g looking at response times for some of the PW2 software improvements over PW 1 I strongly suspect they will stop the PW 1 in its tracks.

Often companies don't do things just to annoy people.

If you think about it logically it's sensible to do it like that. Customers get very annoyed if they're told that something will be available on a certain date and then that date is changed. Far better to tell no one anything until it's definite and then tell everyone.

they won't tell their Customer Service anything until it's announced to the world - it's their normal way of doing business

Four emails later I have been informed by Amazon that unfortunately at this time they are unaware of any updates for the Fire HD7. The one thing I'm interested in is the cloud collections, but it looks like the Fire HD is not getting it. Or if they are Amazon are keeping it a secret from their own customer service.

I have the original 7" HD, so I wouldn't mind a few of the new features plus I have an older paperwhite that has been given a recent update

You really do insist on repeatedly proving the truth of my initial supposition don't you. Deary me.

CBRetriever. Me too, only got my 8.9 this year so wasn't aware of any blogs from 2011 but remain hopeful for an update. It'd make sense right? The more support the product gets the more I purchase from Amazon. If they only break even or make a loss with the newer kit then broadening the userbase with upgraded hardware to tempt new users while maintaining the existing customers on legacy tablets would mean more revenue wouldn't it? I can't see why the older Kindles can't get at least some of the features of OS 3 to maintain parity.

Okay, final post on this little diversion Damaskcat as I'm not sure I follow you. I could be wrong (hey, I was about the link) but where was your opinion posted? You asked a couple of questions one of which inquired if I was upset. Not sure how that can constitute an opinion... ah wait, I see what you've done there. You've made go all pedantic. Touche you wiley fox.

N.B also struggling to see the bit where I asked for praise for my herculean efforts in posting (an incorrect) link. Thanks for letting me know I'm not welcome in your fiefdom though (I'll take it that's your opinion; clocked it this time). Always nice to know where I stand with 'The Man' in any given situation. I'll take it under advisement.

CBRetriever says:
I guess my point, though I didn't state it exactly like that, was that lots of those articles are incorrect - people sincerely believed that the original Kindle Fires from 2011 would get updates to allow them to have much of the same functionality as the Kindle Fire HDs from 2012 and that never happened. There were scores of articles and blogs saying it was going to happen. So, I won't believe it until I se it.

What an original viewpoint!

Any public forum attracts lots of different opinions - it's the way things are. If you want to be praised for your efforts then a public forum isn't the right place for you.

I rest my case.

Avid Reader, agreed and sorry for being part of derailing the actual topic of discussion. It was my genuine intention was to share news that the HD 8.9 looked to be in line to get the update and tried to post a link to that effect where there were likely to be other 8.9 owners with an interest. I think however rather than try to be friends, better that I retreat back to occasional observance rather than participation. When it comes to forums I prefer engaging discussion and debate on subjects of mutual interest over tit for tat one liners which frequently prevail here. If I'm honest I've often suspected trolling gratification to be the only explanation for most of them.

Sigh. You've kind of just proved what I was saying about pedantic posts. I posted a link trying to share information and it was pointed out that it didn't appear to link to what I originally alluded to. I acknowledged this which you'd think would be an end of the matter. Post submitted, link shown to be wrong, 'oh, so it is'. Yet then there's another post saying the manual download link is for HDX. Well it would be, there's isn't a page indicating an update to the HD 8.9 which had already been pointed out... and acknowledged. But somehow we're still talking about it. So this is the 7th post for what really should have taken three tops. And to set your mind at ease, I'm hardly upset. I often look at these forums, especially around new release dates for news and feedback etc, just an observation based on what I see. A handful of people both helpful and pedantic by turns but with a healthy side line in point scoring and one-upmanship when the opportunity arises.

Damaskcat says:
So you posted a link that turned out to give incorrect information and now you're upset because people have pointed out you're wrong? Why are you getting upset?

In reply to an earlier post on 20 Nov 2013 06:24:50 GMT
JimiDiGriz says:
I am aware. As I said, I'm sure the link was there on Amazon.com when I first posted however it now seems to have gone. It's honestly sometimes not worth the effort trying to contribute to these discussions when the responses are often pedantic nitpicking from the same individuals over and over across many of the threads. I think we've established that the techblog sites indicate the update should be coming to legacy Fires as well as the new HDX ones, and that I've posted a link that subsequently appears not to show the download live for the legacy Fire where I'm sure it once did. Am I missing anything else? Just trying to share the news with the community.

the manual download link is for the New HD and HDXs

JimiDiGriz says:
I'm just sure the link I posted talked about it being rolled out over the next few weeks and had a manual download link but it's not there now. I could have been wrong, either way looks good for the legacy HDs getting an update.

no, I checked for an update for my HD right after people were reporting them for the HDXs and no one on the US site has reported an update for their HDS or plain Kindle Fires yet

it may be in the works, but it hasn't been released yet

http://www.androidcentral.com/amazon-releases-kindle-fire-os-31 Seems to indicate it's in the pipeline for the HD models. News has also been posted on various other tech sites e.g. http://www.geeky-gadgets.com/amazon-fire-os-3-1-update-release-for-kindle-fire-hdx-kindle-fire-hd-18-11-2013/ so hopefully it will come to the UK also.

I'm also sure that original link had the updated software as I had to go to amazon.com to find it. Maybe they pulled it for later release.
