Hi
Was thinking of buying a basic kindle fire for Christmas but am confused as to whether you can access BBC iPlayer and you tube on it. Is this possible ?

These are the 2 main things I would use the Fire for and therefore it isn't worth getting one if these aren't available on it.

Thanks !

Paula, BBC iPlayer is in the Appstore and works well for me on my Fire HD. I've also been watching some YouTube videos this morning.

love film runs really well on the fire, you need a subscription to use it,it costs 4.99 but it has a free months trial. I have itv player running on my fire but there is no official app from the appstore.

youtube only seems to work if you use the mobile version of youtube, you can change the silk browser settings on your fire HD to open up mobile versions or standard desktop versions of websites. you can also set it to auto. try auto first and if that doesnt work select mobile versions of websites. swipe down from the top of the screen and select more, applications, silk, default browser view then select your preferred option. You'll know if you have the desktop version of youtube open as none of the videos will open and you will get messages asking you to install flash player.

** I spoke too soon, youtube on my kindle works intermittently and can work for a while and then stop working in the same session, there is no pattern but it is frustrating. slowly getting hacked off with my kindle fire hd now its so buggy i find myself reverting back to the wifes ipad.

hi can anyone advise how to get the bbc keystage websites to work properly on the kindle fire hd, webpage loads fine but then the interactive game icon does not display is this due to lack of flash player support?

\hi, could you tell me how you got itv player on your fire? I have downloaded flash but google wont let me in to download the itv i player app., \thanks, Peter

Same question as above! I have tried changing my silk settings to mobile as well, but then itv player just transfers you to google's app store. I also downloaded flash to see if that helped but doesnt do anything...not sure where it goes as cant find it on fire.
I spoke to amazon support earlier about this, they recommended sending an email with any issues, as the more they get, the more likely they are to change things when they release an update.

Something I've also found is that you can't download on iplayer like you can from ipads/iphones etc. Disappointing

Hi, Before you download flash you need to download es file manager, its in the Fire apps, free, then download Flash, open es file manager and open downloads, you'll see the flash then click to download.
Then have a look at www.catchuptv.com doesnt have i player but all the uk channels.
Hope this helps, I'm still going mad trying to get the ITV i player on my fire !!!

Oh dear, infuriating! I can get es file explorer which I presume is the same. Flash shows up there but clicking on it only lets me open as text/ audio etc. I then went to tvcatchup.com an STILL says I need flash, arghh!

sorry, forgot to mention....
go to settings, device and set Allow installation of Applications.
Then install the Dolphin Web Browser.
Then Adobe Flash player 11.1 into es player then download it from the download file ...and you should be ok...sorry

Thanks for your helps, unfortunately I'm not getting any further!
I click download dolphinfor android tablet, however there's no indication it's done anything, and with nowhere else to click am not sure about that bit. In es explorer flash is there but says it can't open the nested zip-like file. Maybe I'm downloading the wrong version? There's various options and I just clicked the first one...

I have experienced the same problem trying to download the Dolphin browser. I have managed to download Adobe Flash 11.1, but that won't work without Dolphin.

There appears to be a bug in the Kindle fire and the iplayer with certain Wi Fi modems Firewalls that prevents the actual video or audio from playing. Short of replacing the modem there must be a solution for this while this gets fixed?

i've had this problem i just restarted the kindle then went back and it worked fine

Well I've given up on the kindle and gone for a google nexus 7. Have to say the kindle wins hands down on sound and wifi, but you can rent movies from google play, as well as being able to transfer some of your own over, plus has a I torrent app... The kindle really disappointed me, just can't do what it should be able to!
