Andrew Wood says:
What do you love and dis-love about your Kindle (or the Kindle service from Amazon)?

Love
1. Has re-Kindled my love of reading
2. I no longer have to have an argument with my wife when we pack to go on trips. Can I take a small rucksack of books or a large one? The dilemma of what to take and leave behind - resolved! (and space to bring back another 12 bottles of wine too :-) Same with business trips (do I have enough reading left in this current book, or do I need to take a back-up in case I finish? How many books for a week vs lugging them all around airports etc)
3. Ability to sample before I buy. My Kindle has saved me far more money than it has cost.
4. After giving me a lot of ribbing about buying one, my wife now admits to wanting one. Money can't buy that sort of smug satisfaction....:-)

Dis-Love
1. All-up weight of the device with a decent cover is a bit too heavy
2. 'Clicky' buttons on the keyboard (wife complains about the noise when I'm reading in bed)
3. Inability to purchase from other vendors (come on Amazon, adopt ePub (as you've been hinting at for a long time now). Then we will see a little more price competition)
4. Small sample size. Many other vendors permit a free sample of several chapters. Amazon is typically a relatively short free sample.

There's nothing I dislove personally

Love the fact I can download anywhere. Even my wifi only can connect to my iphone 4s 3g signal to download a book. No more holidays scanning the newsagents in Spain and only finding crud.

Denis Powell says:
Andrew, I buy at least a third of my eBooks from retailers other than Amazon to take advantage of lower prices, so competition already exists for many books.

You'll find that in many cases the prices are set by the publisher and are the same whether in ePub format with 20% VAT on Waterstones as they are with 3% VAT in Kindle format from Amazon. Neither Amazon nor Waterstones are "buying in" eBooks so they can't discount them.

I really cannot say I "dis-love" anything, it really is one of the best things I've ever bought. I do prefer my new K4 though, I just want them to do a 3G version ASAP!

I love it to bits, but there are certain pdfs that it wont display correctly no matter what I do.

Absolutely the best thing I've ever bought.

You can buy books from elsewhere - can't imagine why you thought you couldn't!

By the way - can't stand the made up word 'dis-love' - what's wrong with dislike??

I love everything about it, especially that I am exploring many more genres than I would usually stick to with tree books. And I'm finding new talent on the Free Charts that I am sure will make it big in the next few years and I will be able to say that I read them first!

Plus, the fact that I need never be without a book to read is perfect :)

I love mine, my only regret is the life span. This is MY personal view only -because I use it so much, I would be prepared to spend twice as much on a more robust version, to avoid hair-line cracks in the casing etc. I've got two cracks in mine, and am not looking forward to having to sort it out before the 1 year deadline...

For me i would say it is the position of the back button just below the five way switch.
I personally would like to see this moved to the left and turned on it's side so that it is facing up and nothing is below the five way switch as i've had a couple of problems when using this.

I just weighed my Kindle with a quite heavy leather cover - 460g
I just weighed the nearest paperback - 325g
I just weighed the nearest hardback - 1290g

The kindle fits in my jacket pocket.

love my kindle to death. it has hardly been out of my hands since i got it just over two weeks ago. I am reading far more than i have in a long time, it is so much easier to read than a tree book as you don't have to hold the pages open all the time.
Only thing i've found that i dis-love so far (not really a fault with my kindle either) is when someone else gets hold of my kindle!!!!
my boyfriend thought he'd have a look at it last night and without realising brought several books while trying to look at them, and all are things i'm pretty sure i will never read grrrrrrrrrrr.

I do think 10% as a sample is more than adequate. I'm currently reading the complete sherlock holmes and the sample would give you the whole of a study in scarlet!! (and more)

MS says:
Some books I've sampled show next to nothing. Front cover, Contents then "I hope you enjoyed this sample" er no. Why bother with a sample at all?

kindleworm says:
beejaytee and wilber g thanks for that will have a look at that

Willber G says:
Must have been very short books!

Two suggestions in this case:
1) Buy the book and get a refund it you don't like it;
2) Look it up on Smashwords where the samples are (I think) 20%.

BeeJayTee says:
They do vary.
I've had some very generous samples and others, as MS says, provide no story text at all.

Love my Kindle. Hate (not dis-love) the idea that one day it will pack in and I just hope I am at home so I can get a replacement.
