Hi Observer

You can't beat a bit of Neutral Milk Hotel (mid 90's American indie lot), or Ultra Vivid Scene. At the moment, the Shins are pretty good aswell as Band of Horses. And if you don't have a Bonnie Prince Billy / Palace / Will Oldham record in your collection , there must be something wrong with you!! Check out mark Kozelek (former Red House painters) and his other venture Sun kil Moon.

Agree with RG... Sun Kil Moon - April (absolutely sublime)
Also, Great Lake Swimmers - Ongiara
Earlier bands worth revisiting...
Fad Gadget - Incontinent
Caberet Voltaire - Red Mecca
23 Skidoo - 7 Songs
Pink Military - Do Animals Believe in God?
Bill Nelson - Quit Dreaming and Get On The Beam
... you see where I'm going with this, Nighty Night

Have you heard of Howl Griff? They are well worth seeking out. I love their new album The Hum. They have been played a couple of times on BBC6 but I don't think they are well known.

How about Flubber and the Jeebs,MCMXLL,Clitty Buntlick,Doctors of Madness,Autchre,The Handsome Family and Puerto Rico - all who have had five star reviews in my head but haven't troubled the chart.
But then,I would probably hate Flubber and the Jeebs if Everyone had heard of them and they were chart and radio regulars.

The Real People......Liverpudlian band who had early ties with Oasis (providing some support uin their early career) and you can see the similarities before Oasis went Supersonic and The Real People didn't.
