Italian action... the horror man's action film?

Noticed that Italian action films - poliziotteschi and the like seem to draw in more fandom from horror fans (particularly Italian horror fans unsurprisingly) than they do action fans. Seems the average fan of say "Street Law", "Almost Human" or "The Italian Connection" is more likely to cite Fulci or Bava as their idols than say Schwarzenegger or Willis, seems an odd trend but maybe more fans get into this stuff through Italian cinema in general than through a love of action, any thoughts anyone?

As so many friends on the forum are (or were in more prosperous days!) Franco Nero fans thought I'd let you guys know I created a listmania with over 20 must-see films of his, a fan's shopping list with titles both popular and more obscure. Curiously I struggle to find those lists nowadays whereas a few years back they were all over the site, anyone know why?
