JONESY says:
Bloke and g'friend are travelling through desert. They stop at a remote diner and g/friend excuses herself to use the washroom.
She doesn't return, which prompts a desperate search by her bloke.
A sinister sheriff and unhelpful redneck locals figure if i recall.

What's the name of the film, and is it as good as i seem to remember?

Also there is another, the only bit of which i can remember is that there is a chase sequence in which the villain riding a horse jumps a wall and becomes impaled on farm machinery lurking on the other side.
Does that ring any bells with anyone?

Iommi1 says:
Second one sounds like a Hammer House Of Horror TV episode from the 1980's "Charlie Boy' I think?

Breakdown starring Kurt Russell, J.T. Walsh and M.C. Gainey. Really good film. I have no idea what the second one is.

Hang Ten says:
In Breakdown, the girl disappears when she drives off with the trucker. The car broke down on the side of the road. The trucker was supposed to drop her at the nearest diner to call for help. She didnīt go missing when they were both in the diner so it canīt be Breakdown.

No, it's not got Kurt Russell in it. I would remember that as I hate him and his films with a vengeance (Yes, even "The Thing" i'm afraid, sacriligious as it might seem!) !!!.
Sorry K Dearlove et al, but thanks for trying.
The film i'm thinking of pre-dates the Kurt Russell film.

JONESY says:
Hi Mr Tonge.
I'm afraid it's not Hush. The film i am talking about is at least 10-15 yrs old.
This is really starting to bug me now. It could have been a made-for-tv movie. It's definitely been on terrestrial TV.

JONESY says:
Thanks everyone. Incredibly i've just stumbled across it myself.
It's "Dying Room Only" with Cloris Leachman and Ned Beatty.
Panic over.

Now......... as for the 2nd. It's an old B/W film. I don't think it was a Hammer/hoh episode mainly because i saw it when i was about 6 on the TV which probably makes it a 50s or more likely early 60s film.

Peter B says:
I also thought your first film was 'Breakdown' but obviously not.

The second film you asked about is probably a black and white thriller from 1963 called 'The List Of Adrian Messenger'. It has an ending as you described which takes place during a fox hunt. Directed by John Huston, it starred George C. Scott and Dana Wynter with Kirk Douglas, Burt Lancaster, Frank Sinatra, Tony Curtis and Robert Mitchum appearing heavily disguised, in cameo roles (although Douglas and Mitchum are easily spotted).
