Region 1 dvd player help!!!

i was looking to buy a region 1 dvd, and i was wondering if i need any extra cables or a NTSC tv to use it with, i was gonna get thisSumvision Phoenix Premium Multi Region DVD Player by Nanobits HDMI 1080p USB Port DivX 6

I expect your tv is a modern LCD or Plasma screen. This means that you shouldn't encounter any problems because modern tv's can output ntsc carried down any of there channels

I bought one of these - BBK Multi region DVD player : DVD Video/Audio, DivX, USB, HDMI, upscaling 1080p - and haven't had any problems. Every disc has played fine and I'm using a 22 year old Phillips TV !!!!

Make sure it converts NTSC>PAL. Multi region is nothing with out the converter. Besides, why bother with a DVD player anyway? If you want total region free get a Sherwood bpd-5004 or Momitsu BDP -899. They are all region DVD/Blu-Ray Players that will convert NTSC>PAL. The Sherwood is available on Amazon US. Can't verify if they ship to UK but it's really offered by Kit Camera so you might contact them directly. Yes I know there is no out of the box region free Blu-ray/DVD player. Well, don't you listen to any naysayers,this player performs, no if ands or buts. Most modern TVs can cope with NTSC DVDs [even our 15 year old Sony 21" CRT and Philips/Hitachi 14" CRTs are fine with NTSC DVDs]. However you do need a region free DVD player. This is easiest for Philips DVD players as the region free codes are fired via the supplied remote. Pansonic DVD players/recorders seem to require a special remote signal [search eBay and get one for around £15]. Sony units seem to need a hardware mod, so buy them already converted to region free. Just check your DVD player is already region free before buying or look online for region free crack codes to ensure your model can easily be converted to region free when it arrives. Connect the DVD unit to the TV via SCART [old CRT TV] or HDMI [hi-def LCD TV]. Our Philips DVD player can also play VOB and DivX via a USB external PC drive. Ensure that 'Multi-Region' actually means 'Region Free' before you buy [it may be a missprint for 'multi-format'].

ntsc isn't really an issue anymore - any tv on sale now will synch to the 60hz signal and you'll be using hdmi or component so the dvd player won't be outputting NTSC - NTSC is a way of encoding colour into a picture and you're bypassing that.

The player will almost certainly play a Region 1 DVD without any extra cables, firmware, etc, as most Multi-Region DVD Players these days have Regions 0-8 which are :

0 Informal term meaning "worldwide". Region 0 is not an official setting; discs that bear the region 0 symbol either have no flag set or have region 1-6 flags set.
1 United States, Canada, Bermuda, U.S. territories
2 Europe (except Russia, Ukraine, and Belarus), Middle East, Egypt, Japan, South Africa, Swaziland, Lesotho, French overseas territories, Greenland
3 Southeast Asia, South Korea, Republic of China (Taiwan), Hong Kong, Macau
4 Mexico, South America (except French Guiana[citation needed]), Australia, New Zealand, Oceania
5 Afghanistan, Ukraine, Belarus, Russia, Africa (except Egypt, South Africa, Swaziland, Lesotho, and French overseas territories), Central and South Asia, Mongolia, North Korea

Anyone know where i can buy a region 1 dvd player? Not multi region, Just r1.
Also anyone had trouble with early region 1 discs, got a few that won't load these days without a lot of trouble. Once loaded no problem, but initial startup bit iffy.

Almost all tv these days has NTSC capability.I've used a Sumvision DVD player via HDMI on 5 year old lcd tv,and It's fine.

Sounds like the laser reader in your DVD player is on the way out.The same thing happened to me on several players over the years.As to getting just region 1,why bother ?! Go for a multi region.They're only £30 or less these days.
