If you have written a book and published it with Amazon, please read this message from Amazon before you even *consider* mentioning your book in this forum:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/forum/fiction/ref=cm_cd_tfp_ef_tft_tp?_encoding=UTF8&cdForum=Fx35L6AIBJFGDP0&cdThread=Tx17KH4XPGMM82L

Self-promotion irritates and annoys a lot of people, and to do so is a pretty sure-fire way to gain you a poor reputation. It could also damage potential sales.

Uhm, okay.

Bumped again - why don't people read the rules?

Fredrik Nath says:
Marcus, by stating the name of your own book on the first posting here, you are promoting yourself and your book. About a year ago, Ben Kane told me off for doing exactly what you're saying you want to discourage. I've never done it since. Can one really take this discussion forum seriously? If you really mean what you state, then delete the title of your book from your initial post otherwise you look as if you lack credibility.

Marand says:
What makes you think its a book? There is nothing listed on Amazon with that title.

Anita says:
Just curious: which part of Marcus' OP is the book title?

It's a genuine question btw

In reply to an earlier post on 28 Feb 2013 22:17:43 GMT
Marand says:
I assumed it was Marcus' name rather than the link but I can't see anything to suggest it's a book title.

In reply to an earlier post on 28 Feb 2013 22:35:52 GMT
Anita says:
Marcus - sorry, Marcus, for talking about you behind your back - had another name tag before, and it would be *very* funny to suspect that as a book title. I know Marcus is an author, and hell - it's easier than easy to get to his page and see his books. So - what? He's self-promoting merely by posting *anything*?

That's a bit over the top, guys. In other words, plain stupid.

Okay - a personal question for F. Nath: which part (please, quote) of Marcus' post is a book title? (And which book it is, as he's written more than one?)

Repeat: it's a genuine question

Fredrik Nath says:
Ok guys. That's cool. I followed the link and you are quite right. It's not a book. Guess I'm just used to the self-promo like that from Autnonomy. I apologise whole-heartedly to poor old Marcus.
I got it wrong and I agree with his inital post!
How's that?
By Fred Nath author of all sorts of misunderstandings! :-)

Anita says:
Thanks, Fred. Sorry if overreacted. It just seemed a bit... unfair, you know

In reply to an earlier post on 1 Mar 2013 13:57:59 GMT
Fredrik Nath says:
No need to apologies - as a writer I' becoming less sensitive to ctriticism all the time. :-)

In reply to an earlier post on 1 Mar 2013 18:17:11 GMT
I've just seen this, F.Nath, and ... no worries! I can entirely see why you thought I was perhaps promoting a book that way - and you're right, it has happened quite a bit and people have, indeed, been told off for doing so.

Just for the record, the "Bartlesnipe Returns" bit is a hangover from a joke on the US forums about a year ago ... and I haven't yet got round to removing it. But I can categorically confirm that I have never written a book with that title! :-)

Thanks, Anita, for sticking up for me! :-)

Sandra Giles says:
I didn't realise there are multiple threads like this. Marcus, you sure get around!

In reply to an earlier post on 1 Mar 2013 18:24:28 GMT
This is only the second I did, Sandra. As Fantasy and Historical Fic are the forums I frequent the most, these are the ones in which I've seen the most spam.

In reply to an earlier post on 1 Mar 2013 18:26:18 GMT
Anita says:
Lucky you. Clearly you haven't seen much of thriller forum :(

In reply to an earlier post on 1 Mar 2013 18:27:28 GMT
Never go there! By the sounds of it, I don't want to, either! :-)

In reply to an earlier post on 1 Mar 2013 18:28:40 GMT
Sandra Giles says:
I'll try not to derail this thread like I have so many others. It happens way too often!

I think you should change your name to Marcus Pailing (Saving the nation from spammers)

In reply to an earlier post on 1 Mar 2013 18:54:49 GMT
Anita says:
Any bump-derailing is okay here methinks
