Region B is a blu ray category and a blu ray disc will not play on any dvd player.
If you have a blu ray player then region B will play on it.
Region A is USA.

Personally I think Region coding is a real waste of time these days.
Firstly because it's so easy to get multi-region players and has been for some time
Secondly with VOD being so popular having certain films only available for set regions would have a negative effect on sales

Vod can control what you can and can't see much more effectively by your location. Just as Amazon do with e content.
Lots of region free blu about.

I know and that's why I question why some publishers still use these. Oddly enough you can get the uncut version of Eraser and collateral damage region free. Yet Running Man which is older is locked for R1/a only. Not even available in UK. Why? It's such an old film and well known enough to be wanted by many Brits.

Depends on who owns the licence. Criterion releases are all Region A. Canal + tends to publish the euro version.
Most of the UK police series, Endeavour, George Gently and the like are available in the US on blu but only dvd here- bizarrely. I can only assume that, like books, the blu licence is sold separately or the production money from some sources will hold the blu rights for the money they put in e.g. Endeavour.
