Total Recall (2012) - extended/normal cut?

I can be a sucker for popcorn action flicks and I was just wondering from people who have seen the extended version, how much longer is it and is it worth it over the steelbook version? HMV does the steelbook version for the same price of £15, which most places sell it for, but it doesn't look like it's extended. Shame, because I love steelbooks and I also love more bang for my buck. It's a toss up.

It's 12 minutes longer at 2hrs and 10 mins. Ethan Hawke is in the extended version!
According to Blu-ray.com the HMV steel has got the extended one aswell.

The shortest possible cut of this film is the preferred one. One of the most boring, bland 'blockbusters' (remember when that used to mean a film that broke records?) I've seen in years. It could be sold as a cure for insomnia.

Ethan Hawke aye. Is it a cameo? Yeah, I just checked blu-ray.com and it mentions like you said, steelbook has both cuts. I've read it's a gem of a transfer. Same with Dredd that's out in a couple of weeks. Tempted to get both. Help lol O_O

Dredd is amazing. Such a shame it was a flop at the BO. It's my favourite action movie of the year! I haven't seen the extended cut of TR 2012 yet.

To be fair I haven't seen the extended cut yet. I watched the theatrical cut over Christmas with my son and we both enjoyed it. It's not Shakespeare I know, but for big popcorn action its entertaining enough. I think the AV quality of the BD is excellent. A lot of consumers had issues with the sound dropping out at various points in the film, luckily I didn't. But that was easily solved by changing the BD player to PCM.

I've had the Dredd BD for a while now and it's not perfect. Video has a lot of noise in it (although from what I've heard it looks better in 3D for a change) and the audio is unbalanced to the point where the dialogue is drowned out by the rest of the elements. Some people like their audio tracks overcooked (which explains all the praise for TDKR), but I prefer them more refined.

Strange about Dredd, Blu-ray.com give it audio 5, video 4.5...

£14.99 at HMV , Fantastic looking steelbook with both cuts of the film, watched the extended cut last night & its fantastic, action packed with nods too the orihinal, Well Worth Buying & sticking next to the Arnie blockbuster..

Horses for courses etc. I'm not a fan of BD.com's reviews; they gave a glowing review to Lady Snowblood despite the fact it has screwed video levels (then again so did DigitalFix). There are a few reviewers I'm in tune with so I tend only to trust their opinions, those of a few clued up people I know on various forums, and my own eyes/ears. No substitute for the latter.

I think a lot of people will like it, but I found the audio totally overblown. It's like all of the elements are constantly competing for a place in the mix and as a result some (mainly the dialogue) are marginalised. The video isn't terrible, but it was very clearly shot for 3D and the 2D version actually suffers as a result. I'm not that familiar with the cinematographic process used for the film, but from what I've read it's likely responsible for the 'coloured grain' that a lot of reviews have complained about. It's worth reading the AVForums or Hi-Def Digest reviews if you're interested.

It's a shame that the 2D isn't up to scratch. I think that was why it didn't do so well at cinemas because there wasn't many opportunities to watch it in 2D. The 3D is good though. What did you think of the film itself? Did you enjoy watching it?

I really enjoyed it. great action, top special effects popcorn flick. Too much hate I think. Really looking forward to seeing what it's like on Blu!

Me too! Sounds like the PQ is a bit iffy in 2D though.

I dunno, the review I read spoke quite highly of the PQ and user reviews the same. ..

Shame,I really liked the film personally. Thanks for the caps. Hopefully the 3D will make up for it?

I dont know what you's have been watchin but I found it crystal clear & good audio aswell. Watching on a Panny 46GT30B on a Panny Full HD3D player !

mmmmmmm..........the lovely Kate Beckinsale............Viewed this film as a standalone to the original, really enjoyed it. The original is a great film, this is also very enjoyable, the changes make all the difference.
