I am rather excited as the second book by Ali Shaw - The Man Who Rained - is released today. I absolutely loved The Girl With Glass Feet so I am really on tenterhooks to get my hands on this.

What books are you looking forward to this year?

The final book in The Power Of Five series, 'Oblivion' written by Anthony Horowitz

Raven says:
Despite not absolutely loving the middle section of The Passage by Justin Cronin, the first and third sections have hooked me enough to be waiting patiently for the follow up The Twelve later this year...

One book I look forward to and hope for in equal parts is Solaris, Stanislaw Lem. Previous translation, which Lem disowned, was made from a bad French translation; the new one is directly from Polish, and given that there's a spoken version of it and that it can be had on robobook (thanks for neologism, AJ-99) I shall certainly buy it if it turns up in form of a book.

New novels from Martin Amis, James Kelman and Richard Ford go the top of my list.

Whoops, forgot to mention www. completereview.com. Click on 'Literary Saloon', and today's blog entry has links to several newspaper articles listing books that the list-makers look forward to seeing published this year.

Thanks for that monica. I am looking forward to The Whores' Asylum and I really loved 2 books that just came out - The Legacy of Hartlepool Hall and The Thoughts & Happenings of Wilfred Price, Purveyor of Superior Funerals. Not bad to have 2 great new novels (one a debut) in the first week of a new year.

Thanks for the great link monica! Have just pre-ordered about 8 books and have to say that I am most excited about the new Hilary Mantel, Bring up the Bodies. Great title and a follow on to Wolf Hall.

@monica, I hope you don't mind that I have added your link to the literary fiction thread on the kindle forum. Culture Magazine (Sunday Times) also has a good listing of new releases in 2012, including non fiction books.

Crikey - I forgot about that, me too! It's out in August, and has been in my wishlist since August last year!

Raven says:
Karen- yep I only remembered by trawling through my very 'well-populated' wishlist and also seeing a gazillion other books I'm meaning to read this year! :o)

Raven says:
Hi S Riaz- Have just read a proof of The Whores' Asylum and on the whole I enjoyed it as a slice of quite well-written Victoriana- needs a wee bit of editing in places though, which may happen before publication...

Have just been distracted by a new book from historical biographer Kate Williams The Pleasures of Men- set in Victorian London- another one for the wish list!

I know, I have been adding books every day recently - it is not humanly possible to read all of them!

@Raven, The Pleasures of Men was good, but not brilliant. Another book I am looking forward to is When I Was A Child I Read Books. This looks good too, The Lifeboat.

'The Ganesha keystone' by Laurie Maitland. Just finished reading Hailstones in May and can't wait for the next novel by this author. Have to wait until March apparently :-(

Not at all; it's a wonderful site that, blog aside, has outstandingly good book reviews, and I wish more people knew about it. Yes, Garscadden-- sorry.
