I'm currently reading Malcolm D. Welshman's 'Pets in a Pickle' and really enjoying it! Can anyone recommend any other good books with the focus on pets and vets with a humorous slant? Thanks in advance!

I sure hope you've read all the James Herriot books? They're absolute classics. Here's one:
All Creatures Great and Small: "If Only They Could Talk" and "It Shouldn't Happen to a Vet"

Gerald Durrell, unsurpassable, in my opinion.

A Zoo in My Luggage

My Family and Other Animals

[EDIT. I managed to miss the bit that OP was asking for fiction. Still, it's fun :)]

Go onto Amazon Search, books, above. Type in Pets in a Pickle and then click on the book. Scroll down and there is a horizontal listing of similar books. Some are by the same author, however there are others.

I read Blitzcat by Robert Westall over Christmas. It's about a pet cat that goes searching for her owner during the blitz. It's like a series of shorts about the people she stays with on her travels. Very good, and not at all mawkish like you might expect. and there's a vet in it too :).
Read a few of his other books since. Kingdom by the Sea is also set during WWII, and features a pet dog as a central character. Apart from having his comic-bookish sci-fi distopia book Futuretrack 5 on my shelf for ages, I'm surprised I hadn't heard his name much. His books are primarily aimed at youngsters, but you could think of them as quick light reads. Stormsearch is good also.

Cathy Woodman (who is a vet!) writes well-regarded books about pets and vets...
This is the first one, I think: Trust Me, I'm a Vet.
I am a former vet, but I write about ancient Rome. No James Herriot for me!
