Name that book!

Trying again as no responses yesterday...

I read a book about 6 years ago and want to get a copy for a friend but I can't remember what it was called and can't find it by searching. Can anyone help?

I remember it being about a young man who ends up living with a family of Flemish weavers/tapestry makers. He helps a blind academic study bees, while falling in love with the daughter. (More gripping than it sounds!)

Any suggestions gratefully received!

The only book I can think of is Lady and the Unicorn by Tracy Chevalier. Some of the plot involves a family of weavers in Brussels. I haven't read it, but have heard the buzz as the author is the one who wrote Girl with a Pearl Earring. Sorry, this is the only one I can come up with!

Hi Irma
Thanks for the speedy response. That came up when I was googling yesterday and, although I've read that, I don't think it is that one. Maybe I've mixed the two books up together. I may have to go back to the Tracy Chevalier to check...

So sorry. Let me know if you find out which book you are trying to remember. If it was that wonderful to initiate this search, I would want to read it!

I think I shall have to concentrate on the bees rather than the weavers! Let's see if anyone else can help ...

The Beekeeper's Pupil

Irma - I think I've found it! After far too many hours of searching in random places, I think it's this one. I have ordered a copy to see.
Thanks for your company on my search.

Fantastic! After all your searching, I figure it must be a very special book. I'll try to find it on amazon in the U.S. as I can't order from U.K. site. It's been good talking to you! Are you keeping this site going for any other book searches?

I hope it's as good as I remember - an interesting blend of scientific fact and historical romance. We shall see. A friend has started keeping bees which made me think of it again. I plan to give her a copy.

I'd be interesated to hear what you think of it if you do get a copy.
