what is this a date then ? I mean I've heard about this sort of thing happening on the internet but I'm too busy making squillions of quid and flying around the world in my jet (which had to specially built because I am so tall) to engage in relationships of any kind - but now that my new movie is out and my cure for cancer about to be released I intend to slow down a little so I'll be in the pub about half past - the handsome one at the bar ? yeah that'll be me

Why don't you arrange to meet in the Adult Contemporary forum? That's always nice and quiet...

WHAT 11 you really must be kidding gille liath - the AC (as the in crowd fashionista's of the new wave avant garde, cutting edge, state of the arts tattling classes are calling it these days) is always ALWAYS, everyway - a-buzz and a-crackle with activity....trends are set, epochs defined, whole movements come and go....right there

gille liath says:
Maybe, but you never have to wait long to get served...

gille liath says:
Are you saying you don't qualify?

'Adults only' actually makes it sound like one of those premises you see on the high street, that always have darkened windows and the front door locked (ie more interesting than it really is)...

It was that last post that sent me to bing, where I learned that this thread isn't about two different editions/translations of the Bible. I'm altogether serious. It would be nice to know that someone else was thinking along the lines of one book with a cross on the cover left in hotel rooms & another with a grey cover published under auspices of something like 'The Christian Press'. . .

I can honestly say it never crossed my mind - and now, looking at the names, I feel a bit guilty that it didn't. I thought they sounded vaguely racehorse-like...

Wonder if it crossed author's mind or whether it was subconscious. Had another look at thread title & think it was absence of upper-case letters on surnames that threw me. Wonder whether Gideon Society or whatever it is has different cover designs for different sorts of hotels, you know, Chip Kidd designs for boho ones, Morris wallpaper designs for stuffy traditional ones, plain hell-fire scarlet covers for places no one checks into for an entire night . . . No, guess I don't wonder. In fact, I'm sure they don't. Boy, that Gideon Association Inc. is missing a trick. Who do you think is hotter, Raskolnikov or phwoo-er Little Nell?

...Don Quixote or Miss Havisham?

(Do you by any chance remember the Guardian's Rhyming Celebrities - Johann Von Goethe and Norris McWhirter, for example? The Guardian didn't take itself quite so seriously in those days.)

No, the Gideons I see are always plain brown. Though I still have an NT edition they presented to all of us at school - a natty burgundy colour accentuated by Vimto stains.

There used to be one (Gideon Bible) in my regular holiday cottage, but it's gone. Could anyone possibly have stolen it...?

I've still got mine around somewhere, not even going to think how many years I have had it for. They are rather strange names for books of this nature.
