That Forty Thing
Do you have a Forty thing, I did so, I wrote a book. I wanted to do this for years. So does everyone have a thing, doesnt matter about the mile stone. Just will you do it, have you done it or still thinking about it. Read mine. Shameless plugging! Oh well!

What would you like for your 40th Birthday M T?
Oh, I'll have an emergency C section please.

That was my 40 thing!

My 42 thing was a humorous fantasy novel.

My 40th was a total let-down. My 45th last year brought the realisation just how much better my life has got in the last 5 years - and a bunch of extremely cool and funny new friends. That was worth more than any present I could have got.

blimey Ginger! You're older than me. I never thought that. I have become used to being the elder matron in pretty much any given situation. Phnark.

No forty! That's a nasty figure. I'm turning 39a next month. :-)

Well I am really about 22 - its just my body which has grown older.

Same here, Gingerlily. And that's so unfair.

To learn to play the violin. That may have been my thirty thing too. Can't remember. I thought buying a decent one would help. Ah well...I can play guitar :).

Mark Porter says:
I'll be hitting 40 in November. I'll be celebrating it with my partner over in Washington DC where my brother lives and I've managed to finangle a couple of promotional gigs for my book. It might be small scale but it's a dream I never thought would happen, so 40 for me is going to be one of the better milestones.

Forty!!! I remember forty . . . just . . . but I can tell you here and now that by the time I reach seventy, I shall be a world-famous writer, rich, beautiful and dripping in diamonds.

At least - I will, if a couple more people get around to posting reviews of my books.

I'm 40 this year. mark, that sounds like what I'm up to. I'm holding a massive party in London in the autumn and getting many of my favourite writers along to perform as well as a great band, and for once in my life I'll be throwing a gig where I get to headline rather than putting myself on first before anyone's turned up

Stella, Gingerlilly... I collect action figures. Can you guess my mental age? I think my two year old son is already a bit too mature for me.

I hated being 30 because I'd achieved very little being 40 was much nicer. I'm comfortable with who I am, I've done the high-powered job thing, written the book...(this makes me sound a lot more sorted than I actually am, doesn't it?). Sadly, apart from my face and hair I seem to have the body of a 73 year old... arthritis, shingles, a bad back... that is a bit pants!.

You are getting writers to perform... my mind is working overtime here. That sounds really exciting.... everyone can actually watch them writing?

MT: I didn't have any problems with 30 but the 40 really gets me. Like Gingerlily, I'm really young. Last week at a BBQ, people fell off their chairs when I told them. They really thought, and it wasn't just a polite thing, that I'm just 30 or beginning 30.I get this reaction a lot. Hence I have my eyes on younger guys. haha

Me too Stella - are you my twin?

Posted on 18 Apr 2011 17:37:55 BDT
Lots of people think I'm 10 years younger than I am and I just think it would be really rude to correct them :).

When I turned 30 I mysteriously started listening to Radio 2. Since I turned 40 last year I find myself listening to Radio 4. I have no idea why.

In reply to an earlier post on 18 Apr 2011 19:03:03 BDT
Quite possibly. With only a few years difference. I was a bit more reluctant to come out.

I'll have to have a word with my mother - she must have sent you back to Germany....

Posted on 18 Apr 2011 19:15:06 BDT
I always wanted to have a twin sister and if she's from Dublin, the better. I love the accent.

Posted on 18 Apr 2011 19:18:43 BDT
My accent is sort of an Irish/English/American mixture with a hint of German occasionally when i want to ;)

it was always my intention to give up smoking when I turned 40. Well, I'm 40 for another 6 months, you never know ...

Danny, Radio 4? That's seriously scary :)

Gingerlily - absolutely - it's like those old pieces of footage of Jackson Pollock doing hsi action painting :p

Danny Gillan says:
I know! I can find no rational explanation.

That's a well weird mix.
