was going to buy a kindle book but noticed it would be cheaper to buy the paperback. How is this fair? Anyone know why this is the case?

Steven says:
as well as the VAT issue, the publishers can set the price of an ebook which cannot be discounted by amazon. amazon can and do heavily discount the paper version of books-- often when the paper back comes out you see the kindle price dropping. I believe the EU have reached an agreement with the major publishers re setting the price of ebooks so you may see this practice stopping soon-- i don't know the ins and out of the agreement. what I would say to the op however is that buying a kindle doesn't stop you from reading the occasional paper book if it is better value for money. you still have that choice, so i don't think fairness really comes in to it to be honest.
