Sorcerer and Apprentice (In Serein) Just recommended this for a book with lots of magic but it's not for kids. Medieval/fantasy setting.

Thank you both,i will look them up,i trawled through the fantasy books yesterday and for the first time ever i was not able to find a book that i had either not read or that actually appealed to me,im feeling quite flat without a good book to look forward too!

The Spook's Apprentice (Wardstone Chronicles) by Joseph Delaney - a good series set around the 1700's, following the apprenticeship of a 'spook' who fights witches and other supernatural monsters in the County. There's a bit of magic in it as well, but there is some gore in places. (Not enough to spoil it however!)

Self-promotion is only permitted on the MOA (Meet Our Authors) forum. Please remove your post (before Amazon does so) and head on over to MOA ...

More spam - why don't these spammers stay in the MOA play pen they've been given?

(Read the beginning of the sample of Resonance - it's pretty much as rubbish as you'd expect.)

These guys asked - so I told them what they might be interested in.

Do you have a link for this MOA forum?

Muchly appreciated.

Thanks for the trash talk Garscadden.

Marcus - I have to admit to not having read your book, but I just scanned through the Look Inside preview, and it looks worth a browse. No idea if it has magic, but I reckon if people are going to buy indie books they should be from authors like Marcus, who contribute to discussions here, rather than just copy paste spam.

I sound like a Marcus Palling alter ego spam bot now, I assure people I'm not. As far as I know. If were a spam bot would i really know though? =)

I'm not quite sure what to say. I didn't realise people spamming their books on here was an issue - so sorry for any offence, I'm just bewildered since the posters asked for books to read - I've written some and would like the oppurtunity to read them. I had read through all those posts before posting my "spam" - it's not as if I just "drove" by - all the posts I have done are all relevant to the genre they were looking for, so I'm not sure what the problem is. It's not like im going through every post spamming - I'm merely posting the same information to these guys to save myself some time.

I asked for a link to the other forum because I am new - I didn't expect a really patronizing reply - and getting totally ignored like a piece of excriment. Thanks for the welcome - but I shall move along briskly to where I may have some success.

Cheers.

Hi Garscadden,

My books don't have any magic (at least not worth mentioning), so even if I *were* inclined to promote them here, I would be misleading people. Thank you for the kind words, anyway! LOL!

The Rivers of London series is excellent - somewhere between Harry Potter with policemen and Neil Gaimen's Neverwhere

In reply to an earlier post on 11 Apr 2012 15:24:43 BDT
I second this - I cannot wait for the 3rd book in the series. Ben Aaronovitch has hit on something a bit different, and I read the first 2 books in a couple of days.
And I love Neil Gaiman!

I don't know if a 'Young Adult' tag would put you off, but the Last Dragonslayer series by Jasper Fforde is brilliant, plenty of magic and they are hilarious.

Rivers of London is great, and the sequel (Moon over Soho) is even better! Can't wait for the 3rd book to be released. Grave Witch was entertaining and I'm with you on the Urban Fantasy stuff but much to my surprise I really enjoyed the Ilona Andrews series, well written and funny.

I am into the witch stuff myself at the moment and my favourites so far are:-

Deborah Harkness - A Discovery of Witches, fantastic book, everyone I have recommended it to has loved it (its a trilogy with the 2nd instalment to be released in July).

Debora Geary - A Modern Witch series and the spin off Witch Light trilogys for a nice easy read.

Just reading Mindy Klasky - the Jane Madison witch series and enjoying it.

Then there is Juiet Blackwell - Lily Ivory Witchcraft mysteries.

I don't know how to link but you can search for them by name.

Hazel says:
These are set in modern, everyday life, so I'm not sure if these will qualify, but I love them:
Sweep, Volume 1: Book of Shadows/The Coven/Blood Witch (Sweep 3 in 1) by Cate Tiernan (the first 3 books in a 15 part series, but I 'flew' through them)
Balefire Omnibus also by Cate Tiernan
The Secret Circle: Initiation AND The Captive Part v. 1 and The Secret Circle: Captive Part 2 AND The Power by L.J. Smith form a trilogy.

If you are looking for something set in a fantasy world, there are of course T.A. Barron's books about Merlin, starting with:
The Lost Years (Merlin (Puffin))

Happy reading!
