Can anyone help track down a book series?

Dont really remember too many details, I think it was a trilogy or maybe a 4 parter. Detailed the age old battle between light and dark, I seem to remember there being a wizard like character with a rainbow cloak.

Main bad was killed in either second or 3rd book, but not before raping a girls and final book featured his offspring as the main bad.

The part about the main bad's, um, activities reminds me of Guy Gavriel Kay's "Fionavar" trilogy, but I don't think that's actually the one you're thinking of. But if you haven't read it, give it a look -- I'm guessing you would like it. :-)
