I read Dark Elf and Icewin 20 years ago and loved them. My son is now almost 10 years old, so i thought they would be really enjoyable to read with him. Two questions:

1. I was going to start with Icewind, then move onto Dark Elf trilogy, does anyone think that i should reverse the order?
2. Has anyone read these with their ~9-11 year old....is it too young to get the most enjoyment out of them? He is a keen reader, with a reading age of 11.

Thanks

J.Yasimoto says:
1. No. Icewind first. The only time I would suggest starting with Dark Elf is if you've already read all the Drizzt books and are revisiting them.
2. I would say it's too young. Why not start with The Hobbit or Dragonlance Chronicles? Then, if he enjoys them, move on to the RA Salvatore books which I think are a bit darker. Especially the Dark Elf trilogy.

However, on the whole, it's very difficult to get kids interested in the stuff you used to read / watch when you were younger. God knows, I've tried!

LEP says:
I agree with Yasimoto re.age. Try The Hobbit and
has he read The Percy Jackson series? If not let him read those and series like Septimus Heap etc.
I would advise not to push your love of the series on your son. Let him try other things and if he likes those let him try Icewind if he wants to.
