which films should have a remake

How about the magnificent Charles Bronson film " Yes Virginia there is a Santa Claus" Made for TV 1991 and never released ( as far as I know ). Brilliantly moving film.

i would like to see more movies on old egypt ..eg valley of the kings with robert taylor, death on the nile - david niven, at one time the screens were full of them .. sci fi also .. during the 70s tv had some good scifi .. the thing - roy thinnes, star trek etc seems scifi rates second to reality & soaps now if they bother to make them at all.. or have them on for very long. i wonder if awards may be the force behind them not being made anymore as there were never any awards given to scifi movies, that i can recall :)

I have always hoped that someone would make a proper film of War of the Worlds. One that follows the book as Wells wrote it: set in Edwardian England. It's just a shame that Richard Burton isn't around to star in it.

none I detest most remakes why ruin a classic if it ain't broke don't fix it.

I'd like to see Stephen King's "The Stand" made in to a proper film....with Darabont directing it.

how about Around the World in 80 days .. again! .. only as its a good long movie , with a good plot & would be great to see who theyd pick now for all the bit parts from the original .. :)

Struggling to think of a good/great film that could be remade better....so it would have to be a rotten tomato...but who remembers them?

"The Comfort Of Strangers." It has some good performances but doesn't quite work.

"The Magnificent Seven" WAS a remake itself...of sorts. It was heavily influenced by Kurosawa's "Seven Samurai".

Having said that, if it was going to be remade again, how on earth can you replace The Magnificent Steve McQueen?

Speaking of which, good luck to any director who attempts to remake "Bullitt". God forbid!

I can't for the life of me understand why they are making a remake of the Whitney Housten/Kevin Costner film, The Body Guard. The first was good, leave it alone.

Personally I'm not into remakes, if the first was good, then you are hardly likely to better it. Look at the American version of the Italian Job, I don't think that it was even set in Italy.

I was appalled, but not really surprised, to see a display stand with a collection of CDs et cetera by Whitney HOUSTEN. She's hardly cold yet the 'let's make the bucks' grab the moment situation has started.

It was the same with Elvis in 1977 and it has often been causticly commented that the best career move for a film star or great music performer is to die. Your sales go ballistic.

They always reissue CD's etc when someone like that dies e.g. Michael Jackson etc. Look at Jim Reeves for instance, if you remember him, for years after his death they issued previously unreleased material.

Apparently, they were already going to remake The Bodyguard before WH died. However, my point was that I couldn't understand why they were doing a remake? Are the songs going to be the same, or different? If the songs aren't the same then it's not the same film, just a film using the same sort of storyline.

A singer such as Elvis only does so many songs in a career yet we'll get one CD that has, for example 'Heartbreak Hotel' followed by 'Hound Dog' then we'll get another with 'Hound Dog' as the opening track followed by 'Heartbreak Hotel', with the cynical manufacturers knowing the dedicated Elvis fan will want them both.

It happend also with Roy ORBISON and so many others.

Great talents such as PRESLEY and Ricky NELSON were exploited then thrown away for the next new thing on the market. 'Colonel' PARKER was behind both of these.

'We need to talk about Kevin' but still with Tildsa Swinton and the three boys who played Kevin - so it had better be soon then, but different Franklin. Tilda and the boys were excellentg but I found the script very disappointing, Too arty - a triumph of style over substance. Agreed with the down playing of the violence, but missed too much of the story and significant charaters, the teacher? the victims? the friend. Would work well I think as a drama series rather than film.

Why? What's wrong with the original? Who on earth could replace Yul Bryner, Steve McQueen, James Coburn or Robert Vaughan - true Hollywood movie stars - no body! Leave it alone!

I watched "Lady Jane" - a 1985 film starring a very young Helena Bonham Carter and Cary Elwes, and Patrick Stewart, about the nine day queen Jane Grey. The Tudors are v popular so it might get an audience if done well. I actually really enjoyed the old version but don't think it is considered to be a classic in any way!

Stephen FRY, the commentator, once said on a television programme about Henry V111 that Henry { 1509-47 }, despite all his efforts, had no son to succeed him and his daughter Elizabeth succeeded him. This was blatantly wrong and FRY should have done his research before reading the script of the programme on air.

Henry's first wife, Katherine of Aragon, produced Mary I { 1553-58 }. His second Queen, Ann Bolyne, produced Elizabeth I { 1558-1603 }. His third wife, Jane SEYMOUR, gave birth to his son, Edward VI { 1547-1553 } and she died some days later. Henry decreed that Edward was to succeed him then would come Mary then Elizabeth if Edward had no children.

As was fortunate for history none of this generation of Tudor usurpers had children. Edward was, however, King in his own right and his choice of successor should have over-ridden his father's will. On his deathbed He selected the Protestant Lady Jane GREY as his heir and that should have been the way it went.

Selfish vested interests dictated otherwise, Mary succeeded Edward and the young Jane went to the block for Treason.
