Films that made you cry??

ok,so i watched Armageddon last night and cried like a baby at the end (much to my partners disgust) anyway it got me thinking about other films that moved me to tears, so here are a couple:
Brave Heart - i cried so hard at the end ive never had the heart to watch it again.
Green Mile - seen it a few times cried everytime (you think id learn!!)
Bambi - who hasn't?
So come on guys and girls get thinking what films moved you to tears and why??

Titanic - something about that film touches my soul.
The Reader - sad how the main character would rather be imprisoned than reveal her secret.
Revolutionary Road - the breakdown of a marriage is always tragic.
Blood Diamond - A death usually makes me cry in a film.
Dancer In The Dark - an accuired watch, some will cry, some won't sit through the first 20 minutes. I cried.

Carrington - Emma Thompson and Jonathan Pryce, superb!
Shadowlands - Anthony Hopkins is perfect and so vulnerable in this gorgeous biop
Titanic - I'm OK until the orchestra can't play on, then I'm lost

Shawshank Redemption -- when Brookes is released on parole, but fails utterly to cope with being alone in such an alien modern society and "decides not to stay".

Schindler's List -- placing the stones on his tomb at the end, made more poignant by the fact that the real people are doing it.

Atonement-Robbie and Cecilia were both killed in WWII and never got to be together. I bawled my eyes out at tne end.
Life is Beautiful. The little boy's Dad dies right before their concentration camp is liberated.
The Remains of the Day-Anthony Hopkins unrequited love for Emma Thompson. So poignant!

Pay It Forward - the candle lit vigil at the end breaks my heart.
a few of you have mentioned Atonement i think im gonna have to watch it now you have piqued my interest, gotta agree with Titanic, when the old couple are embracing on the bed while the water is rising all around them, so sad!

The Twilight Samurai. Lovely film.

Perhaps if the topic was renamed to "Poignant Films" it would be better? The movie has to be believable and the tone exactly right to suck me into a story. Anything tragic, based on truth is a good start. e.g. I really liked Shadowlands too. Also, good "coming of age" dramas, anything that pulls you back to your own youth, or a bit of (non syrupy) nostalgia is always good. Some I like: My Life as a Dog, Unstrung Heroes, Stand by Me, Before Sunrise, Gregory's Girl, Untamed Heart, Frankie & Johnny, Time After Time, Hearts in Atlantis, Hope and Glory.

Me. I'm a complete freak, I know. But even watching it with my mum as a little kid, she was sobbing and I just asked why she was crying! I didn't understand at all - still don't. I apparently just told her straight, 'It's not even real!'.

I tend to keep that to myself, as people just stare at me, like I'm heartless, but I'm a softy, really. Give me real people - I'll cry... animation - I'm that same little kid.

Yes Green mile does it for me too, it's the bit where he talks about it being a long wait to meet up with those you've lost. Can't watch it again because of the awful electrocution scene though.
Atonement - the scene with the soldiers singing had me absolutely bawling in the cinema.
It's a wonderful life - when all his friends turn up with the money, 'no man is alone who has friends'.
Dumbo - when he's separated from his Mum and they sing that lullaby.
Casablanca - not as you'd expect over the love story, but when they all sing the French national anthem in the bar, just sends shivers down your spine.
Four weddings and a funeral - when the guy reads that W H Auden poem at the funeral.
Little women - when Beth dies.
Moulin Rouge - at the end.
Miracle on 34th Street (original, forget remakes) - when Santa Claus speaks to the Dutch girl in the Dept store.
Oliver Twist (David Lean's version) - you just feel so sorry for the little orphan boy.
Ditto the phantom of the opera - you don't want the heroine to fall in love with the drippy handsome lead, you want her to love The Phantom even if he is insane.
The Snowman - at the end.

It has to be It's a wonderful Life - I start crying when Mr Gower the druggist smacks George Bailey's bad ear, and I pretty well don't stop crying till after the credits.
Shadowlands always gets me as well, and the last time I watched Schindlers list I was awash as usual.

I guess I don't wear my emotions on my sleeve, so am not a blubber :) I remember 'The Abyss' had some powerful scenes where Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio had to basically drown in order to be resuscitated later as there was only air enough for one to return. Then there was the desperate scene where Ed Harris is pounding away on her chest trying to revive her. You could also include the scenes where Ed is descending into the abyss with no chance of return, Mary's character is trying to talk him through it, and his text messages are getting more feeble as the pressure increases. Very well done.

King Arthur:not going to spoil it but it made me cry for days.
PS I love You: very sad film hits the spot all the time
Backbeat: God, that ending! Made me cry tons
The Phantom of the Opera: Outstanding pefomances make you feel for them, your emotions are high in that movie
Hunger: You go through a tough journery with very disturbing scenes, made me cry at the end after it finished.

I can see your reasoning behind renaming the topic "poignant films", however its not necessarily always these films that move you to tears (although many of these titles are what spring to mind when you think about it)
So i will keep the topic as Films that made you cry? and add to the list............
Stephen King's The Mist, not a bad horror film as these things go, however the 10 minutes or so at the end (the complete loss of hope and its fatal outcome) horrified me so much i wept on and off all night after watching it. I will NEVER ever watch it again either, just thinking about it upsets me.

Grave of the Fireflies - Tragic! the end could have been avoided and also the innocence of the girl and the excellent japanese voice actors make her so likeable and make the end so hard for me to take. I'm probably too sensitive for my own good

Watership Down ...... at the end ?

Dark Victory with Bette Davis. Superb, credible performances from all the principals and the Queen of the Screen herself in particular. The oscar performance of '39 - but for Gone With The Wind. Frankly I don't give a damn though - this is the winner for me, as my tear ducts constantly remind me. Caught the last 10 minutes on Tv recently, just by chance, and it was still enough to have me blubbing like Geraldine Fitzgerald; watch this classic and you'll know what I mean.

Gotta be The Colour Purple - the end......

Green Mile, Shawshank uuummmm to many I am a big softie....

I am Legend, When the dog sam died. Such a sad moment :(

The Searchers - at the end as Ethan says " Come on , Debbie .Let's go home."

I admit for me it was Green Mile.
