You are clearly the sad individual when it comes to these various discussion groups as I have noticed that a number of your replys have already been deleted by Amazon. For a change why dont you make a useful comment or better still keep your comments to yourself.

Thats a bit unkind.

Whats the problem with someone wanting to see an old programme?

My wife has mentioned Come Back Lucy many times and I'm sure she'd like to see it again too. In fact theer's load of old stuff that's due for a release, what better place than a drama forum to discuss it?

John Gammon says:
It doesn't seem available on DVD - maybe you could write to the Network DVD company (see, which has lots of forgotten British TV gems on their books.

I too would love to see this released - I still have the puffin paperback with the illustration from the tv series on the cover. Aunt Gwen was played by the wonderful Phylida Law - maybe we need to get her onside to spearhead the release of this great kids drama.

I can't believe anyone else even remembers this series - let alone the number of people on this discussion. Whenever I've mentoned it in conversation I get blank looks. To make matters worse I teach Oona Kirsh's son and have always been embarrassed to say to her how much I loved 'Come Back Lucy'!

Sou'Wester says:
Sorry, like Victor I've never heard of this show (can anyone enlighten us as to what it was about). Initially, I though Mr. Ant was appealling for the return of Lucille Ball! (And don't any of you young whipper-snappers ask who she was!)

LEP says:
Yes Sou-Wester, I initially thought he meant I Love Lucy (of course she's dead, so a comeback would probably be a bit difficult LOL).

I can't believe I am not the only one! No one I know remembers this and I was starting to believe that I had made the whole thing up. This was an amazing programme which really scared me as a child, the ghost child was so creepy. I will keep my eyes open and see if I can hunt anything down.

I must have been about 7 when it was first shown, and growing up in an old house myself it freaked me out!
I have been looking for 'come back lucy'for years. Finally it has appeared on you tube. The quality isn't great but it is better than nothing.

I remember this series well and it scared the hell out of me as a kid, if i remember correctly its about a young girl whose grandmother dies and she moves in with relations and befriends a victorian girl through the mirrors of the house. very scary! ATV made it and I believe Granada/ITV plc now own the archive. may be worth getting in touch with them, be great to see it again after 30 years! -darryl from ipswich

How did you manage to see Come Back Lucy? Did you mean you saw the book? Please tell me there's a way to see it onscreen. I so want to share it with my children.

Many people think of I Love Lucy when I mention Come Back Lucy.

The best synopsis is on Little Gems (just Google Come Back Lucy to find the site). The upshot is that orphaned Lucy has been raised by her Great Aunt Olive. When her Great Aunt dies, Lucy goes to live with relatives she has never heard of! Aunt Gwen, Uncle Peter, and their three children are great people. However, they live in the (then) modern world of the 1970s, and grieving Lucy is confronted with culture shock. This is why the house's resident ghost, Alice Bennet, preys upon Lucy's vulnerability. Lucy's reflection allows her access to the Victorian times. Initially, Alice seems like a retreat from the chaotic household, but soon reveals her malicious intentions. She is lonely, her siblings all being adults who have left home, and wants to keep Lucy forever.

The first episode turns up on the Look Back Vol Four compilation from Network Video. I'd suggest they are the first place anyone should be requesting a full release of the series. YouTube is nice and all but give me a full disc release with extras any day!

I loved this series, I remembered it but my brother (or anyone I knew then) didn't which made me question whether I'd made it up when I was little. However I found the book and read it and it was similar to what I remembered, which was brilliant. Then luckily I stumbled upon it on youtube and watched it all again. I wish that it would be released on dvd as I am pretty sure lots of people would want to buy it. I remember been scared of it and watching it again I can see why.
