I'm basically looking for movies with a Machiavellian theme in there, so along the lines of Cruel Intentions, Dangerous Liasons, Valmont, Pretty Persuasion and Minnie's first time.
I just noticed it's all women in those examples - definately doesn't need to be the case, variety is always good :)

Thanks xx

Rebecca has it all - especially the truly sinister Mrs Danvers

All About Eve is an all-time "twist and turn" favourite - so fasten your seatbelts, you'll be in for a bumpy ride!

The Last Seduction, Double Indemnity, Internal Affairs, Out of the Past/Build My Gallows High. All female Machiavels except Internal Affairs. Any film version of Othello! Vertigo (Gavin Elster, the hardly seen manipulator, but with devastating effect, via Judy/Madeleine, who is herself cruelly manipulated).

I love the same films so you might find these suitable:
The Draftsman's Contract - Peter Greenaway isn't everyone's cup of tea but there are a lot of manipulative characters and the Draftsman is so cold.
The Pillow Book - there's a streak of cruelty running through this, I find it fascinating
High Plains Drifter - yes, a Clint Eastwood western and his characters are usually very manipulative, but this is good
p.s. thank you for the recommendation of Pretty Persuation. Minnie's First Time: I can't find this - do you have any more information about it? Thanks

That one with Joan Crawford and Bette Davis in it as sisters, title is to do with Baby Jane.

Misery with James Cain/Carne (?). He's an author with a broken leg and she's a sinister crazed fan.

I suppose one of the most famous Machiavellian characters is Iago in Othelo. There are various films of Othelo.
The Godfather
The Emperor's Club (2002)
Dr Fu Manchu
Pulp Fiction (Lance)
Sherlock Holmes (Moriarty)
MacBeth (Lady M)
Spun (the Cook)
Damages
Henry of Navarre (Catherine de Medici)

Can i also add Oldboy to this list. Brilliant film with a wonderful if sickening twist! Talk about manipulative. a man is kidnapped and locked in room for 15 years, he is then let out into the street with nothing but a mobile and a wallet of money and tells him to solve who kidnapped him.

Robin says:
Try The Manchurian Candidate - the original version - where the great, great, great Angela Lansbury plays a truly manipulative schemer. You might also watch The World Of Henry Orient where she plays a devious adulteress.

'Whatever Happened To Baby Jane?' and 'Misery' - both parodied by French & Saunders!

James Caan portrayed the author in 'Misery'.
