If you can't afford it don't buy it. Credit company's are thieves they profit in your loss they don't care, all they want is for you to default on payments and then they rake the cash in.

I have had the Amazon card for over an year...and had no problems ever. In fact I have stopped using my existing HSBC cards altogether. I get almost 20 pounds worth of amazon coupons every month and effectively bought lot of stuff from Amazon absolutely free. I love the MBNA card. They provide much better service than HSBC or Barclays. In fact the moment there is any "different" transation I get a call from BoA or a text asking for verification of the transaction. I have used HSBC and Barclays cards for over 4 years but none of them are so prompt.

When you sign up to the Amazon credit card it tells you that it will be your default card, so it is up to the person taking it out to read everything and act on it if necessary

I've had my card for a couple of years easily. MBNA always take the full amount from my account in time and I've never incurred charges. I have earned several £10 Amazon vouchers and have no reason not to be 100% happy with the card and customer service. Sorry for those of you who've had problems.

I know little about credit, are you charged to set up direct debit or charged when you pay the monthly repayment? & where does the payment go to? is it the actual master card you purchased the item on or is it directly to amazon? this is probably a dozy question but im always over cautious =D

I have just got off the phone to Amazon after being passed on to three different customer service respresentatives, all of whom were rude, patronising and inflexible. I have been charged late payment penalties of £12 per month for nearly a year after apparently defaulting on my first payment as my direct debit was not set up in time. This was not my fault - Amazon did not take a payment at the specified date. After repeatedly saying that I thought that it was unethical to take numerous default payments for one apparent late payment, I was informed that they would not be willing to repay any of these charges and there was nothing I could do. I have immediately repaid my balance in full and will not ever be using their services again. I have never come across such a shoddy customer service. I would not recommend that anyone apply for this card.

Ask to speak to a supervisor and make a complaint, when it clearly isn't your fault they must correct it, the staff are trained to try make you believe that nothing can be done about this so that you just give up and pay the fines
Good luck but don't take this lying down

To OP

It is quite clear when you sign up for the Amazon credit Card online that you can start using the card immediately and it will be added as your default payment card. Your first purchase would have been added to that card also, so not sure how anyone can say that they did not know purchases were added to the Amazon Card?

Amazon and Bank of America also provide regular email updates on the dispatch of the card and of the account use - so again, I don't see how this is an issue.

I have had my Amazon Credit Card for a while now and have had no late charges, no fees and no problems. It is a very good scheme if you are responsible.

I think the main issue here is the user rather than the scheme itself. It is all about your own personal financial management and not about the service signed up for.

If you are a responsible person, who reads what is on screen, then I would recommend the Amazon Credit Card. I always settle my bill monthly so never pay any interest and use my card for everything, this way I have had a number of freebie vouchers - thanks Amazon!

Andy by the way - i do not work for Amazon.

Again - this is all about personal financial management. I have never understood people complaining about late payment charges when in fact the payment was late. It is your responsibility as a customer to review your statements and contact the company if there is a problem at the earliest opportunity.

The fact that this ran for nearly a year before you contacted the company is baffling. Were you expecting them to contact you?

The company are perfectly in their right to not refund you this money as you have not complied with the T&C's of the contract. And to be honest, this is a lesson to be learned.

Clearly not her/his fault Amazon didn't take the payment when they were supposed to

You think missing 12 payments is not his/her fault - yeah - must be those greedy bankers/Amazon.

Not sure what planet a lot of the forum users are from - but I believe it may have recently traversed the Sun LOL.

again i am a customer thats had this card for a couple of years, have paper statements every month and pay by direct debit and never had any problems. the statement even states when they intend to take the payment from my bank account
i tend to only use the card for amazon payments .
cant comment about customer services as, as stated ive never had any problems.

She/he said that Amazon was meant to take out the payment but didn't resulting in charges, I don't know if that's true i'm going off what she/he said, don't get off on yourself by acting arrogant, i'm well aware that a late payment can result in fines however if it wasn't his/her fault like she/he said that the payment wasn't paid on time then she/he has every right to get the money back

Jason says:
Yes - but to wait for another 11 late payments before doing anything - come on.

Besides setting up direct debits is YOUR responsibility - not the person to whom you owe the money.

I agree with that completely, action should have been taken from the beginning, i'm pretty sure they should have contacted him/her before the payments escalated but she/hr should have kept an eye on them also, it shouldn't have taken this long for one and two if Amazon failed to take a payment after the direct debit was set up then it would have most likely caused a few extra charges, Amazon should at least refund any extra money taken as a result of that

Hi
This happened to us a few times so we now pay straight from the bank on line and have no problems.

I had loads of late payment charges, even though my bank stated I paid them on dates requirred. I will never ever recommend AMAZON CREDIT CARD. They never looked in to any disputes. I told them to cancel the card and they still haven't done so after months.

pre-paid cash cards looks like a good solution just put cash on your card then you cant get late payment charges and the cards only cost upto £10.00

looks like i am lucky ,,, i applied for the card a few days ago and just checked my emails this evening to find a reply from Bank of America telling me they have not accepted my application.
I clicked on the web site link and entered my DOB , and it tells me i have not been accepted because of my provided information and credit Score using Experian.

The last time a credit check was done on me i was informed it is perfect.
i have a credit card from when i was attending art college , which i will be paying off next month. and i have a personal credit card with an other company and never been late with a payment and infact i have always paid my bills 1 - 2 weeks early , and often pay it 3 weeks early.
And i have a DD for my mobile phone , and i also have a catalogue account with personal credit.
So i do not know how they come to the conclusion that i have a bad credit score.

I did apply for an other card with the company i am with last year , and they contacted me saying they have refused me for no other reason than the card i applied for is far more expensive on monthly payments than what i am paying on the card i have with them now , and it would make no sense moving to a more expensive card.
But having read these posts it would appear being refused for the card is in fact a blessing.

I have been happily using my amazon bank of america credit card for nearly a year without a problem and aquired lots of lovely amazon vouchers for doing so. As long as you read everything sent to you and ensure you pay what you need to (as with all credit cards) you shouldn't have a problem. If a direct debit payment is not taken it is actually YOUR responsibility to check with the bank. If you look at your statements or your online account regularly then you can pick up on any glitches straight away and act on them.

Sorry bluecat i am not sure who your reply is to , but i assume it is to me.

I have never been late with any payments , i only have 1 DD set up which is for my contract phone which has always gone through.
nothing has been sent to me as i applied online and filled in everything they asked for and yes i filled in all the required information.
the credit card i currently have i have never missed or been late for a payment and infact i have always paid the bills so much so that i often log onto my account to find the credit card company has paid £5 back onto my card.
they have done this a total of 4 times now since i had the card and they have increased my limit, the card started with a limit of £500 and within a month or two they had increased the limit to £1000.

AH ,, after doing some reading up and asking Q's to people in the know. the fact Bank of America has refused me does not mean anything.
and they could have simple said no because i am still currently paying back a card from over 7+ years ago while going through art college.

My post was a general reply to the last few posts. I just wanted to balance up the negativity on the amazon credit card with a positive experience and to point out that some problems are as much the customer's fault as the company's

Had basically the same sort of experience - I was ordering something using my bank debit card - they popped up an offer saying I could get £10 off if I ordered their card with it and that it had 0% for the first however long so I agreed - Goods arrived but I never recieved a card - Time went on and I never heard anything - Then I recieved a message that a bill was overdue payment ( I hadn't by then recieved either the card or a bill) - After complaining several times - contacting their head office ect - It turned out that they said they sent the card to me ( although I never recieved it until after my complaint ) and the bill was an online thing - and as I rarely use my computer - I knew nothing about it as it had been put into spam by my laptop so not easily found - so I ended up paying far more - and to make matters worse they hadn't given me the promised £10 off
