Just in case anybody is thinking of replacing their old Hi-Fi system with a new "do it all" unit, I have some advise. Invest in a Bose wave radio. I say invest because they are not cheap but believe me, they are worth every penny. I made the mistake of buying a Roberts equivalent. Big mistake. It's gone wrong 3 times, Roberts's help desk are far from helpful and frankly, they are just not the quality products they used to be. I used to rate Roberts but i'm afraid they are resting on their laurals.
Hi Robo, only my opinion obviously but I have experience of both and let me tell you it's a no brainer. I have had a Bose wave radio for about 6 years. On my recommendation, several others have brought various Bose products and have been delighted. Unfortunately, about 2 years ago I ignored my own advice and brought a Roberts. The equivalent to the Wave, and have had nothing but problems. I'd had a small Roberts radio in the past, years ago, and was pleased with its quality and reliability so had no problem with buying another but this one lost its digital display twice in the first year and when it went again the third time, this time after the warranty had expired, they didn't want to know. An upfront payment of £85 was insisted upon regardless of the repair so I sent it off, they repaired it, tried to deliver it twice without my knowledge so took it back to the factory, again without letting me know. I phoned a few weeks later to ask where it was and was chargesd another £7.50 to redeliver ! "you were not in" they said. Well, sorry for having to go to work. They tried to deliver again, without notification, once again returning it to the factory. Eventually I drove a 45 mile round trip to collect it. When I got it the digital clock was so dark you couldn't see it. I returned it only to be told it was ok. I now have a radio displaying the time that you cannot see unless you get to within a few feet of the set. Yes, Bose is more money but believe me, you are buying far superior quality. If you buy a Skoda don't expect Mercedes quality.
My daughter bought a Wave radio/CD about 10 years ago,the sound was startling then and still is . I've had a Bose lifestyle cinema system for over 15 years ,its analogue but still the best sounding system of ANYONE I know. Expensive ,but it delivers big time.
