Yes it's her son that is trying to go down the "Healthy" road...his recipes are so not like his ma's!

I can imagine it might be hard to be her son, from what I've heard on VegWeb etc. People seem to enjoy making fun of the way she talks And cooks!

I,m not surprised, she,s terrible. Did anyone ever see Lady Claire Mc Donald on TV....wonderful cook, I,ve no doubt but on the TV she came across as a bit of a twit, couldn,t watch her, I was disappointed because I have all her book and just love them.

I've known speakers and writers like that CD. There was one man, Colin Urquhart, who was excellent as a speaker, and yet his books were blah...because they were compilations, poss. typed up by someone else. You needed his delivery and voice to infuse the words with interest, while the books were missing something, they didn't just reproduce what he said (why not?). They were summaries...dull. And there are writers who can pour things onto the page and make it live, but in person are dry and dull (probably shy).
Got the shock of my life once, when I heard an author's own reading on audiobook of one of his own books. Not only was his voice nasal and unpleasant, but he didn't read aloud well! I know reading aloud is a skill, but you'd think an author would know the inflection and emphasis he wanted to give his own work! It wasn't an author I care for, though he's huge to a lot of people I know (Max Lucado). I find his stuff superficial and commercial. So when someone gave me the tapes I thought, "Oh maybe this will help." It didn't. He read like a machine.

That,s exactly it Ori, I agree. I love voices and the way people speak, show me a photo and I cannot tell you who it is, let me hear the voice and I know instantly. Delivery is most important to our pleasure, not just content. By the way, I had a look at veg web and decided to join up, it looks very interesting. I want to eat less meat and though it might be a good site for inspiration. Thanks Ori.xx

"Talking to CE on the new books" I posted an off topic that is bettewr suited to this Forum

We are all so darned different CE = personally I find high protein - low carb suits me best - but putting it "naicely" there are problems - having no greens nor fruit - which incidentally I LOVE - sets up "hold ups on the main highway out of town" - I say that in preference to the more scientific "constipation" eugh I hate that word and prefer something more picturesque - Do you eat your greens CE - I love Spinach - when washed - it has enough water - then you snip off the stalks and toss into a pan with lemon jiuce and garlic butter - that is gorgeous - but there I go again - I should put that on this forum

I want to recommend tasty Spinach cooked this way it is made palatable - for peeps who hate greens

OK PE I've moved over too & this my reply:

Hi PE, yes I eat loads of fruit & love all veg except for Spinach, cant stand the stuff personally tho I know it good for you. Think it stems from my childhood when dad grew the stuff & I was fed it continually. Dad even drank the spinach cooking water! Uggh. Love your term "hold ups on the main highway out of town" - great & so much better than con***tion, from which I dont suffer btw. Think exercise is one of the main factors too & when you dont get around too well is a prob for lot of people!

Btw love spring greens just not spinach!

I've been told the food is used to feed the camera crews after the shoot...those skinny peeps probably don't eat anything off-camera, to keep their shape. There's a book or something out there called "Nothing Tastes as Good as Skinny Feels"...which has to be the saddest thing I've ever heard.

Think it was Kate Moss who wrote that book "Nothing Tastes as Good as Skinny Feels".
She was anorexic for years, skin & bone, so spose she didnt feel skinny herself anyway! Dont know if she is still anorexic now.... Nothing was sadder than her poor thing...

PatE, my grandma used to say "her juices were all bound up" when things didn't move to her satisfaction. ;)

And for a bad cough - oops - there's fog in the channel - I think we should not forget this stuff it is so pleasant

In reply to an earlier post on 9 Jun 2013 17:56:33 BDT
I couldn,t watch her, I find a lot of the female cooks hard to watch, they seem to develop strange mannerisms that I think, they think, makes them more appealing. Angela Hartnett and Monica are ok, I don,t mind Ina, but some of the others really annoy me. Sorry to grump, but that's just me.xx

Yeah, there's a man on the Food Network, Guy somebody, who talks really loud and fast and dashes around like he's working against a stopwatch. It ruins the programme for me. I had the same problem with Ready Steady Cook. Just do it, don't pretend it's an Olympic sport!

In reply to an earlier post on 9 Jun 2013 18:22:15 BDT
And Nigelloa - sorry I find her recipes a bit rich - but her manner - eek!! so languid - well I think that is what I would call it - eek!! again
