Neither. We'll be eating turrón, coconut balls, mantecados, and possibly marzipan if there's any left, proper Spanish marzipan though not the sticky stuff.

I've never had any Spanish Marzipan? What's the difference, Orinoco?

It's made only from almonds and sugar and eggwhite. It's not cooked at all, just mixed and then put in the oven just long enough to colour the top. The British marzipan I've eaten was very sticky and very, very sweet, while good-quality Spanish marzipan tastes mostly of almonds and has a drier, slightly grainy texture. Mind you, as I posted elsewhere, the cheap supermarket brand figures have all the appeal of plasticine: heavy, cold and clammy.

I remember being given some British "mince pies". When I asked my friend what the stuff was on the top she said, "Marzipan." DH said, "No, it isn't. I don't know what that is, but it isn't marzipan." LOL

Ahhh, yes I get it. That is exactly how I make mine when I have the time. Or I buy the more specialist sugarcraft kind for cake makers. I guess you can't stand the German style of Marzipan then? - as it is usually like a soft gooey fondant filling and often very artificially heavy on the Almond flavour too.

Artificial flavours never taste like what they say they do. Take "strawberry" fizzy drinks, chewing gum etc. No self-respecting strawberry ever tasted like that!
So yeah...German marzipan must be pretty awful. I may actually have had some and thought it was "almond bark" aka "white chocolate."

I make my own Christmas pud, I have made it for over 30 yrs and it is lush, it contains about 23 ingredients and I cook it long and slow. I use butter not suet and I omit black treacle and replace it with golden syrup. It is light and crumbly,very fruity and does not taste dark and bitter like some do, neither does it clog up your teeth. I will send you all some for Christmas,look out for flying puds in the night sky...........

Also not sure where the idea that Chrissie pud is fattening, comes from - it has less fat in it than most cakes/puddings - my Tesco Finest one has about 12% and Granny's recipe has about 16% - a typical plain sponge cake would have 20+% (based on dry weight of ingredients). Perhaps people really mean all the cream they throw over it?
(Roast potatoes would be 25++++% fat)
