Hi I'm not a frequent contributor to the Amazon forums but I was wondering if someone would be kind enough to clarify something for me. I was about to purchase Maria Jo‚o Pires's "Chopin: The Nocturnes" ASIN: B000001GPN when I discovered another set of nocturnes by Pires ASIN: B004RJZ9LU.

Is the second a reissue? I normally revive an email from Deutsche Grammophon about reissues and don't recall seeing this. I'd obviously prefer to buy the cheaper of the two if they are the same recording. I'm almost certain they are as the track lengths identical, does anyone know for sure?

The 2011 set appears to be just a reissue at lower price of the 1996 set that I have. Sometimes these reissues are re-mastered, but that shouldn't be necessary for a 1996 DGG studio original. There's also a 2006 "selection". She's a finely sensitive pianist whose nocturnes are considered one of the better sets.

She was once very angry with DGG over something, and made no bones about it in conversations after a recital here, but she has stayed with them, so perhaps their differences were resolved.

may I suggest something else - if you want Pires doing the Nocturnes on DG get the complete set of all of Chopin's works from DG available at budget price with great performances:
Chopin Complete Edition

Better value for money...

Thank you both for replying, I had assumed that the new set was a reissue. I didn't know that the Chopin box was the complete DG Chopin catalogue thank you for bringing to my attention Rasmus. I normally avoid box sets with various artists opting instead for "complete" box sets like the Argerich box sets from DG. However I think I'll buy that box set as you relatively under priced and quite good from what I hear. Many thanks again to you both perhaps I'll see you on the forum.

you are welcome - I hope you stick around!

I have to say about the DG box that I only have some of it, but to judge from the reputation of the performers it looks really great.
