Hello everyone, I just came from Meet Our Author forum and saw this one (unless it was in the Kindle Forum Freebies thread from yesterday). I have downloaded it as it sounds like something my children (and me) will enjoy. The Mystery of Smugglers Cove
It is still free today. It looks like a good old fashioned children mystery. I know we cannot judge a book by its cover, but I did like the cover. Unfortunately, it is only available on Kindle format. I will read it and review it later on, as I have another book to finish now .

The book will be extended free for another day, until midnight American time. I have started it, it is well written and it is a bit like Enid Blyton's style. I think it will be a good read. The Mystery of Smugglers Cove

p.s. and no, I do not know the author. I just like the book and want to share it. **smiles**

Thanks for plugging my book and pretending that you don't know me, I'll buy you a pint at Wetherspoons this lunchtime.
Regards from your pal
Paul Moxham.

Ha ha ha. Very funny, pal.
And I suppose you are the same one who posted a rude NO in the thread where the author asked to review her book.
Thanks for the offer of a pint, but I am teetotal.

Hi French Bookworm,

Not sure if you will read this or not, but just wanted to thank you for helping me promote my book, it was downloaded 540 times in UK and 10540 times in USA. And thanks for the review you just left. Glad you and the children liked it. I need all the reviews I can on the UK site so really glad you left such a positive review.

Cheers...

Hi French Bookworm my ebooks are free to download this weekend. I have read your reviews of books and you are a very honest, straightforward kind of reviewer. I would be really honoured if you could review one or both of my ebooks.

Thanks

Did you do different promotions in the UK and USA Paul? or is it covered by the same promotion? Many thanks for your help.

Paul M says:
No, I just signed up with KDP Select and went free, which meant it went free on all Amazon sites, and promoted like hell. I was lucky to be picked up by a few sites and that is how I got into the top 100.

You're welcome Paul :) we really genuinely loved it. Actually, this kind of fiction was a refreshing surprise for my kids :)

I would be very honoured if you could take the time to look at Simon Cup's Box. It is a woodworking fantasy.

I have downloaded it, will read it and see what I think of it. As for my book, just curious why you gave me a 4 instead of a 5 when you 'genuinely loved it'. 4 is still good, but just wondered what held you back in giving it a five.

A. B. Syed says:
Hi Paul,
I felt it could have had a little more detail, although, on reflection, my story is much shorter with a lot less detail than yours.

There you go, felt guilty. Too easily swayed etc., etc.,

I too am a struggling author and we must present a united front...

Thanks very much Syed. I just recieved a 1 star review so your rating made me feel a bit better. I don't know why reader didn't like book since they appear to like Enidt Blyton, and while I know I am not thebest writer out there, I do believe that Smugglers is average (3 stars) or more and not 1 or 2 stars, so that's annoying. Hopefully the next comment I get will be good.

Anyway, I will try to take a look at your book within the next few days.

Frenchie says:
Sorry Paul, I had to give you a 4 stars review, but I have explained why in my review. I was appalled at the 1 star review though and I had to mark it down as unhelpful. The dialogues are what they should be in real life. Of course, if I wear a new dress and my daugther says it is nice, I will tell her, yes, it is nice. What is wrong with this? I think the reader has forgotten this is a children books. There have been dialogues in some of Enid Blython's books too that where not that ''high level''. As I said in my review, my son (11) find it a bit boring a time, but my daugher (9) loved it. I think because my son had just finished Eragon, so, it might have been a hard act to follow, and also, we have had loads, and loads of Enid's books. Myself, I have appreciated your book, especially the way you have described the sea side, I could feel myself there. This is the kind of book that I do not hesitate to buy and as soon as my daughter gets her own Kindle which is in a few days, I will download the mystery of the missing gnomes and others. Do not feel disheartened, you cannot please everyone. You stand now at 4 stars, it is pretty good. Good wishes for the next one.

I am sorry , AB, I have not come to this forum for a while, but I will check out some of your books, free or not. I never download a book because it is free, but because I think I may like it, or for children's books, my children would like them.
I thank you for your kind word. I always agonise if I have to leave a bad review but if I did not like a book because it is not my type of book, then I think it is not the author's fault and I always try to give 3 stars at least and find something positive. And if there are many books I have not rated because I would give a one star, and I just can't, unless it is terrible and I would not want other people to read it.
I always try to put myself in the author's shoes. How would I feel, if I had worked on a book for weeks and someone just comes along and without any regard, demolishes it?

Thanks for the info on why you gave book 4 stars, though that question was actually to A. B. Syed since I did understand in your thourough review why you did give it four, I just wasnt sure on Syed's one since his was shorter. But yes, I am more than happy with 4, or even 3, I just don't know what thar 1 star person was thinking, so glad you agree with me, after all, why leave a review if you only read the first two chapters? Hope your daughter likes the short stories, do plan to do another main story in next few months, just have to wait and see how successful this one is. Thanks once again.

I took a look at Simon Cup's Box and left a review on the USA site. We enjoyed it, hope you like the review.

Dear Paul, thank you very much for the review, we were all jumping around the room when I read it out! I'm really glad your nephew liked it.
It is very kind of you.
I'm a 'she' by the way, Mum of 2.
I didn't get the Pinocchio thing, and i think those might be the only 5 stars i get from the .com site as my work is very English and I'm not sure whether they will get it.

Reading a positive review is almost as good as actually receiving the proof in the post isn't it :D

I now realise that it is slightly better than receiving royalties (only slightly!) to know that someone in the target audience is reading something that you have written and actually likes it. That's why we all do it isn't it?

That, and ending up with our own theme parks of course :D

Many thanks

AB

A.b. Syed, I hope you will see this message. I have finished Simon Cup's Box - it was brillant (after a slow start :) ) but I wanted to ask you : Chapter 39 , starting by ''they tried to bring the hypnotised kids round as best as they could...'', Mr Turner, the woodwork teacher of Miles High is taking to Mr Joyce. Mr Joyce looked like if was going to be sick. Mr Turner said:'' goodness me,'' Mr Turner said. ''You should go and sit down somewhere, Mr Spencer, you do not look well at all.'' Which shows what a good woodwork teacher he was.

But should not he said ''You should go and sit down somewhere, Mr joyce, you do not look well at all.'' ? as Mr Spencer had been taken to the nurse in the chapter before. Or is it me who missed something ? If it is what you intended, my apologies.

Thanks for reading it FB :)
And for your positive comments, incredibly appreciated! (stops jumping around the room :) )
My goodness, I must have read this a hundred times to look for mistakes and at least four other people have read it for me, but you are the first one to spot the mistake!
It should, of course, say Mr. Joyce, instead of Mr. Spencer!
I will change it and upload a revised copy.

Thank you very much FB!
